From 1975-1987 - their "Rumours 5" period Stevie sang lead and co-lead on 25% of the songs - 16 over 5 albums. Christine about 35% and Lindsey 50%. On stage that was about the same % with Stevie growing a bit more throughout the years to match Christine's.

Bros, this is the great break-up album and you must understand the dynamics of the personal relationships of the band members to grasp how awesome this record really is. Each song is a dagger or a plea or confession to someone else in the band, written by Lindsey, or Stevie (who were a couple) or Christine (who was married to the bass player but in love with guitar player). It's absolutely gold watching them live on stage during this time period. Their angst fueled their creativity (and cocaine helped too)

One of the biggest selling albums of the rock era. This and Hotel California by the Eagles pretty much dominated 1977 on the radio (Aja too). Every song great and most were hits. IT IS A GUY SINGING LEAD!! Lindsay Buckingham is the lead vocalist on this and he's the band's lead guitarist>>A GREAT LEAD GUITARIST. He tended to write the hardest rocking songs. The 2 gals, his then girlfriend Stevie Nicks, and Christine McVie, the keyboardist (wife of bass player John McVie) were also lead and backup singers, generally did the softer tunes. The oddity of this album is the 2 couples (Buckingham/Nicks and the McVies) BOTH WERE SPLITTING UP WHILE RECORDING RUMOURS!! So almost all the songs are ABOUT THEIR LOVE LIFE SPLITTING UP!! The easiest way to tell the difference in the voices of the 3 is this (other than reading the album credits): Lindsay has a somewhat high male voice, but he sings rockers and tends to shout the uptempo songs with kind of an urgency. Stevie has a smoky seductive type voice, she does have a low register for a female, but "smoky" is the best term and her songs are witchy, gypsy like, a bit mysterious. Christine McVie is also blonde (further confusing things), she's British (Buckingham/Nicks are Americans, McVies and Drummer Mick Fleetwood are British). Her songs are usually the softest and poppiest of the 3 singers. All 3 were great songwriters and lead vocalists but Lindsay Buckingham brought the energy to the band, he's intense and an incredible guitarist. I saw FM once, but saw Buckingham solo twice in small venues just to watch his guitar playing. I guess it doesn't help matters that Lindsey is usually a girl's name and Stevie is usually a guy's name. 🤔 😂 PS Fleetwood Mac btw, was formed by drummer Mick Fleetwood and bass player John MCVie, ie Mac.

The "heavier" female voice, as you described it, is the other female lead singer Christine Mcvie. She has kind of a low smoky tone. Yall said you might have heard Go Your Own Way in a commercial. React to "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac. Christine sings lead on that one. Lindsey and Stevie do some great harmonies with her. You will definitely recognize it. Only a few months ago it was all over TV in Chevy's “EVs for Everyone” commercials. Sadly Christine passed away Nov 30 2022. Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac wrote or co-wrote eight of the band's songs on their Greatest Hits album. Guys don't leave her out of your Fleetwood Mac reactions!

The drums play funky during the verses, but then play straight during the choruses. The bass playing straight during the verses then goes funky during the choruses. And the guitar is just seething around it all before it lets all the emotions loose. Killer musicians and songwriters at the peak of their game. And all of the well-known turmoil of this period in a nutshell.

Lindsey said the song was giving her a choice. Open up and take this relationship seriously or go your own way. Stevie has been pretty adamant that she ended it. It's just that her songs like Dreams and Silver Springs make it look like he did or he was the cheater (that was her too she admitted years later). She later said that her opening lines To Dreams were written from Lindsey's POV not hers. She wanted her freedom. SS was written after she left him and got with Henley. Christine said even though Steve axed it when Lindsey got tired of feeling bad and got himself some girlfriends then Stevie couldn't handle it.

The intro vocal is heavier than Stevie Nicks, because that’s Lindsay Buckingham singing that part. Stevie Nicks and Christie McVie sing the backing part.

Mick Fleetwood is very underrated as a drummer. Every nuance of his playing has purpose and really adds life to their songs ❤

One of the greatest American bands. Period. Their use of tight harmonies on the chorus is a signature sound that's similar to a few great bands before them: CSN&Y and Chicago. A true banger!

Suggest you guys watch the documentary “Sound City”. It will give you a lot of insight on Fleetwood Mac and other great bands in the 70’s and beyond who recorded at the legendary Sound City Studios in LA.

The LIVE VERSION. (97) IT'S THE FINALE. FLEETWOOD'S DRUMMING, LINDSEY'S GUITAR, STEVIE'S WHATEVER.... ROCKS SO SO HARD. AND YES....SHOUTING ABOUT IT IS APPROPRIATE.

Christine McVie was more prominent in the background vocals with Stevie & Lindsey. Christine Anne Perfect joined the band in 1970 she married John McVie (1968) an original member of Peter Green’s “Fleetwood Mac”

I was never really a Fleetwood Mac fan, but certain songs are undeniably just great songs regardless of genre or taste. This is one of them.
