I think most people will agree that Grampy is the best thing to come out of the post-code Boop shorts by a country mile. He creates such a sense of infectious joy as he dances around with his inventions, cackling like a madman the entire time - truly an example of chaotic good if I've ever seen one.

Professor Grampy deserves to be given a humanitarian award for making all of those children happy. And there should have been more cartoons of him coming back to the orphanage after Christmas being a frequent visitor, much to all of the orphans' delight where he would regal them with many tall tales and even stories of his own adventures, which makes all of the children happy and excited.

This cartoon is pretty sad yet joyful at the same time. It’s also another example of a depression-era cartoon focusing on little children being sad on Christmas until it comes out happy at the end (e.g. Those Beautiful Dames, The Shanty Where Santy Claus Lives). When the poor children cried at the orphanage due to their old and rusty toys being broken, Santa Claus did the right thing and brought the kids in new toys and brought the Christmas spirit to the house. Overall a pretty heartbreaking but yet cheerful cartoon. Overall I’m giving this a 9/10.

The teddy bear bit breaks my heart every time… This cartoon always comes into my mind as the holidays near, and though it hurts to rewatch at first, I remind myself that it really does work out in the end, and so I give it a watch. Seeing this as a kid was life changing, and helped open my heart to those in great need at a young age. This cartoon is a beautiful example of how impactful pure hearted kindness can be, and with the setting of the great depression, that notion shines ever stronger. I hope this cartoon inspires us to be generous this year, and to find out how we can help those in need as the holidays approach. I hope all who come by this comment section are well this season, and if not, I hope generosity like we see from Grampy comes to you. I have a tear in my eye and a full heart as I write this, wishing you all a wonderful holiday season. TL;DR: Such a beautiful cartoon, and seeing it restored in this way feels just right given the subject of this toon. Let’s be good to each other, and spread joy to someone or even to an establishment like this orphanage who may need it~ 💙

I was thinking the exact same thing! Having owned VHS copies of this film from my childrenhood.... where the audio was so muddled and the transfer so dark..... the clarity here is phenomenal. They must utilize some sort of AI to reconstruct the optical audio as every transfer I've ever heard is clipping like mad due to trying to boost the signal to a level that's louder than the noise floor. I just found the cartoon last week and really liked it. My late gramma was poor and born in 1917, and much of her family died of TB and the flu. They had no running water, or heat other than a coal stove. So this looked to me like what was a normal situation for most folks, except my gramma never had a tree or stocking. (I made her a stocking of her own with her name on it when she was about 80.) This cleaned up and clear version is so nice. The other was harder to see what was going on, like the pop gun for example. Gee I bet this was neat to see new in the theater!
