Hi Barrie the BR 38 was originally a P8 class when introduced by the Prussian railways

This locomotive has the older style of tender connection. The one on the 41 is the current one that moves in the same way as a kinematic close coupler. There are two drive mechanisms for these, the tub tender always comes with a can motor, while the other tender type has the ring field. 13:08 these locomotives did run tender first but not with this type of cab. There also is a version with a totally closed back end,. These did appear in the catalog starting from 1981 and production was in production until 2009. Roco has a replacement in the catalog, and OsKar models also has it but with the earlier boiler setup.

I had one hell of a time trying to fit a Hornby coupling on the rear. The front was easy as a NEM Pocket was fitted to the front bogie. I have managed to do it and its turned out to be very neat and strong. Baz

You can get a NEM 363 adapter for these but that would limit the UK options to the Hornby close coupler.

Hello, could you get hold of a part for me ? Its a front lamp cover (which covers the working headlamp) 0n the front footplate of the Loco) The model is a Class 50 BB 80-4176 ? Many thanks Baz

Hi Baz, this loco is quite like the one that got me into the hobby, not exact, but close. I was on a business trip to Friedrichshafen on the 'South Coast' of Germany, in about 1998, I think (Y2K preparation at Nortel-Dasa) I paid around DM280 for it, which at the time was about £100.

This is the later refitted version with the Witte smoke deflectors,which were fitted when the German railways were being rebuilt during the 50's none of the loks was under the REKO program as they were not heavy use locos like the 03 and the 50 and the 43 originally these had no smoke deflectors or Had Wagner smoke deflectors. Also originally they had regular tenders the tub tender came during the later postwar years.

P8 / BR38 is a wonderful engine. I have the Märklin Hamo version in my collection., made in the early sixties. Just as Fleischmann these Hamo DC locomotives are great quality. After Märklin took over Hamo, they used the label Hamo to release DC-versions of their regular AC models. Great models that still run as if they were produced only yesterday. Cheers 🙋‍♂️ Erik

This one is way too new for that, with 1970's numbers and the Indusi bulge. This would better match some Umbauwagen
