The Rices have continued counseling at a Christian center and say they no longer drink hard liquor. They have continued serious counseling to save their marriage and to save their family. I respect the work this young family put in to correct the wrongs in their relationship. Ray became a father actively involved as a dad and as a loving husband that takes the time to listen to his wife. My best wishes to the both.

I’ve never understood the appeal of S.V.U., to be honest; their episodes have always struck me as watered-down, more exploitative variations of the original (superior) show’s procedural formula, with most of its faults and precious few of its strengths-up to and including its unfortunate tendency to play on people’s ignorance and prejudices towards major stories/incidents outside of what they hear or read in passing, often for the sake of cheap drama, ratings, and seasonal renewals to keep Dick Wolf solvent. :P If something like this WAS gonna be adapted for television in a police format, I feel like something more morally gray and complicated like “Hill Street Blues,” “Homicide: Life On The Street,” or “The Shield” would have been better suited to handle something like this. :/
@clevelandbci9562
@clevelandbci9562 3 жыл бұрын
@@christmashake8968 I still watch it cuz I'm 22 years in, but I could not agree MORE with that analysis. As mentioned above, the writers (Especially the last few years) have become too reliant on sensationalism. As my late dad told me as a kid, saying something is based on a true story/actual events is usually "a lie in disguise." People have been killed in the woods, but that doesn't make the Friday the 13th movies true stories. The Ray Rice episode did have a similar storyline (Football player KO'd wife on elevator camera), but the writers made the guy a monster to fit the narrative. A great Hollywood example is the "true story" boxing movie Cinderella Man. It's a GREAT movie about a former boxer who rose from extreme poverty during the Great Depression to the heavyweight title. The movie showed his opponent (Max Baer) as a heartless guy who cracked jokes about a guy he'd previously killed in the ring. The real-life Max was devastated after the fight, and even went on to help his family and pay for his childrens' educations. That didn't fit the narrative of good vs evil, though. I wish SVU would stop with the headline crap, or at least get it right if they continue. And I watched Hill Street Blues with my dad. THAT was a great show.

FlemLo's explanation of what happened on the elevator left out a very important part, which is that when Ray walked on the elevator, he SPIT in her face and that is why she rushed toward him. That was actually the second time he spit on her with the first time being as she walked past him to get on the elevator. Also, literally NOBODY I know believed their media press run trying to explain the incident. It all felt fake and contrived. They did a horrible job trying to convince everyone that this was their first physical altercation. They literally wanted everyone to believe that they argued incessantly behind closed doors, but no punches were thrown, but yet this behavior happens after some drinks in public.

@@FtGFA Here we go with the anecdotal responses. There is no way to quantify 'most' domestic abuse is kept private. Battered people may not go to the police, but someone else usually knows unless this person has no social circles besides their relationship. At any rate, Ray Rice went and told on himself about what happened BEFORE anyone even saw the footage. Most abusive people are not going to do this.

Redemption is possible. That doesn't mean you don't have to pay your dues when you mess up, but redemption is possible. I hope the two of them have found happiness.

That was a great balanced story on Ray Rice! Pretty good research; I grow up with his Mom!

How could you compare a man punching his wife in the face with the full force of a professionally trained athlete. With a bad night out with friends??? You should not be covering domestic violence if you don't have the empathy for it. This is dangerous.

Not to mention him saying this was a one time thing. That is horrible to say with no proof. If this was a one time thing they wouldn’t have lied about it for seven months and just came clean. Not to mention the way he hits her does not sound like a first time situation, especially if you aren’t normally like that. Just feels like he’s giving ray rice a huge benefit of the doubt when the story doesn’t line up that way at all. A mistake is one punch, not spit and drag them out.

Everybody needs grace, even though grace can’t be earned! I love how he was able to be reconciled to his wife, that’s what’s important. It doesn’t matter what we think, just learn and grow from your mistakes!
