I've have to kind of disagree. While Spectra felt like the boogieman in matchups, Luminaris is what allowed Spectra, and Prism for that matter, to really be broken. Without it Spectra is not an issue, and Prism would be quite weak. She would fold to pretty much every popular deck at the moment and just be kind of annoying if anything. To emphasize, Prism ran 10-13 Spectra cards and was a menace, and there is a version of Dromai that runs 9 cards with Spectra and it's nowhere is the meta. Spectra is only a force multiplier in my opinion. A good mechanic but not broken.

I think if spectra were to come back there would have to be some sort of card similar to the cards that say "Deal x damage to an ally an opponent controls" but instead replace ally with aura

We have seen a couple cards that deal with auras, mostly from Runeblade and Wizard, but I think it's just a mechanic that should be set aside for a little while. But the cardpool may very well expand and change to allow it to come back one day!

Because the original yellow Auras were useless without it. Paying 4 for a card that could just be attacked and didn't end the combat chain would have made them awful cards. Obviously with the 0 costs on top of that it made the ability a bit busted, but I do understand why it existed for cards that cost a whopping 4 and don't block

People complaining about Spectra should experience playing with Phantasm cards. At least you can choose when you attack a spectra card, imagine getting Arc Light Sentinel'ed without warning turn after turn.

Widely considered to be the most broken mechanic, but only by salty players or those not familiar with the math of the game. Luminaris giving free attack value is where Spectra cards became snowbally. With Luminaris gone, not only are Spectra cards not broken, they are completely unplayable (other than passing mirage). Spectra was never the problem, Luminaris granting free attacks was, alongside a lack of interaction cards like Runic Reclamation. Even at its most powerful, Spectra Prism still consistantly lost to most aggro decks + Brute and Starvo. Other than Oldhim (which later became a menace when unchecked by Prism), the only decks Spectra felt unfair against were decks that were already undersupported and floundering against everything, lile Warrior, Ranger, and Wizard. Those decks would still have done poorly in those metas even without Spectra. Give those classes access to more action point card or Aura removal, and full-power, original Luminaris Prism wouldnt even be top 3 decks right now.

Phantasm was the balance to spectra. Any opponent could time walk prism any turn where they drew only heralds, which can happen often. Yes oldhim had a bad matchup, but I’ve seen many bravo and starvo players just swing face their way to winning. ALS on average takes a 2.5 card hand to play, so there’s another time walk half the time. I think players back then on average just didn’t know how to properly deal with the match and the players that did won more often than not.

I disagree - phantasm only exists because illusionist attack actions are overtuned relative to other attack actions. If Phantasm balances to spectra then Passing Mirage would simply not exist

I don't think Prism would have been amazing without Spectra, although it does seem like they're moving to Allies like Dromai, so I expect that will be her way to win in her rough matchups like Guardian. I also agree that people might not have known how to face her, but at the same time, having a bunch of cards on board in a late game scenario basically spelled instant death for any opponent. Like Kodachis on crack

spectra is really not the problem lol. The problem was luminaris. Without Luminaris the spectras are not good. You either trade the majority of your had for an aura or you end your turn with an aura. Without Luminaris the (new) Prism builds only play a few spectras while getting very little value in comparison.

So I used to play allot of prisim when she first came out, I think I won once total, dispite my opponents cheating the other wins I still had fun things like, go again triggering dispite spectra, ect The big problem with the blue auras is they are just too low impact that even when they came out, don't have go again (how people were dropping two was convoluted and ate resource) , and all my opponents knew how to play vs her. Yet when I watched videos or streams vs her I would never see the opponent play correctly. It was fucking MADDENING, so I had to stop. By the time she got banned I had already quit. I had been losing events due to shakey rules wordings by LSS causing judge calls to go against me, dispite retroactive checks confirming that I was correct. Even in that GT, looking at the vod and reports, people still played against her so badly, so she almost got banned for nothing. Countering spectra mechanic is easy, just hit prism for 3/5, then with your last go again pop a yellow arua. You will always out damage, or eat her hand with blocks. It's not hard. I'm gonna be honest with you, man: this is a skill issue on your part. Prism was a hero that required YOU to have in-depth knowledge of the rules, you couldn't rely on your opponent to know how the cards worked. You had to be able to explain to them why Arclight Sentinel just ended their turn, but also know why playing Arclight Sentinel after your opponent has already attack you doesn't change the target of the attack. Prism required you to play a completely different game than your opponent, and alter their gameplan at crucial moments to stop your board from getting out of control. The fact that you think the blue auras are "slow" gives away just how little you understand about Prism, and explains exactly why you couldn't win a game: it's because you don't understand how Prism wins. Prism's gameplan is to build up auras on the field by playing two auras a turn (one yellow, one blue) and get value by attacking with very small chip damage, while ALSO threatening big blowout cards like Herald of Erudition and large damage from Wartune Herald/Miraging Metamorph. If an opponent let you get 3+ auras on the field, 9 times out of 10 the game is strictly over, due to the auras all working together to buff each other and snowball advantage. Since Luminaris gave everything except Blue Auras go again, you could easily end your turn by playing a blue aura out, and they also pitched very well to play Yellow Auras, and they could ALSO be arsenaled to have a free aura to play at the end of the next turn. Realistically, you couldn't win because your opponents knew more about Prism than you did, and knew which auras to pop, while you probably didn't understand when you were supposed to be the aggressor vs. when you needed to be defensive. You probably blocked damage early, instead of just taking 10-20 damage to the face over the first few turns in order to get a bunch of Auras onto the field, and THEN start being aggressive while your opponent had to deal with the auras one at a time. It's a lack of knowledge.

Admittedly, I didn't play much FaB and only blitz, but I tought that illusions that poped when block with 6 powers had the same kind of problems, if you play big attacks with your hero you were fine, if not those cards where strongs af. I think the intention was classes with lots of go again deal with spectra well and classes with big attacks deal with illusions well, so it kinda was meant to balanced out, but I guess it didn't turn out that way!

Nah spectra was great bc it made bad designed classes (guardians and wizards) unplayable.
