Episode 61
A few weeks ago, we rescued another Belgian Draft Horse from Bowie Texas Livestock, lot# 9937. The mare, who we named Amara (Pronounced ah-MAR-ah) looked to have have some injuries on her left side and was possibly lame on her back left leg. We knew she needed medical attention but to what extent was the question. From the livestock yard video it looked like she had a large black spot on her back side. When I called Bowie I was told it was from rubbing in the trailer during transport.
When we arrived to pick her up her situation was much worse than we expected. She had abrasion all over her left side and most of the skin on the left side of her face had come off. The black spot on her back side was definitely not from rubbing in the trailer as you could see under the skin. I sent a video to Dr. Waggoner at Mobile Veterinary Practice as we headed straight to her office so we could get Amara the medical attention she needed.
After getting her to the vet, getting her home and adjusted to her new life of retirement an emergency situation arose a few days later. I went out to the barn to feed everyone yesterday and Amara was laying down and would not get up. Any horse owner knows that a horse that will not get up on their own is a very serious situation.
This video shows Cory and I picking Amara up from the livestock yard, getting her home and what happened after we found her laying in the barn yesterday. We will keep you updated as to her situation as much as we can. Thank you for watching and make sure you subscribe to our channel so you don't miss anything happening here on the farm.
A HUGE thank you AGAIN to our veterinarians!!! Dr Waggoner at Mobile Veterinary Practice and Dr Amber at Claude Veterinary Hospital. With all the animals we have had throughout our life, these horses receive the best medical attention from these two phenomenal doctors! WE don't know what we would do without y'all!
Please consider making a tax deductible donation to the Big Hoof Foundation to help us save more of these precious lives. We have a temporary page set up on the Fletcher Farms Amarillo website until we can complete the foundations website.

Her eyes look so much brighter after the IV. She's so thin, I can't begin to imagine her past life with humans. In my 59 years I've become extremely cynical and hardened to human plight - when all that animals silently ask is to be tended to. God bless you and your husband Julie.

She is sick. She was also in an accident involving asphalt, probably went down while pulling a buggy on a road. It's possible an amish family was hurt and/or killed as well. I assume you don't eat eggs, chicken, beef or use any products or medicines that involve animal testing. If so, that's amazing. If not, consider the suffering you participate in indirectly.

@Jim Dempsey Most modern people reject (like the Amish and Mennonites) the Catholic understanding that all living things have a soul that enables that living thing's life functions. The difference being human soul's are eternal. God-haters maintaining the scam-stablishment's biological materialism not only can't affirm that, they also can't account at the metaphysical level for the ethic they use as human beings. Treatment/behavior "conclusions" always reflect a person's worldview "assumptions". As the opposite is true in the good sense, false (anti-Logos) assumptions ALWAYS lead to non-virtious action conclusions in the bad sence. It's how all of us "image and likeness" bearers function (like it or not) and is expressed in every aspect of our socially-engineered, dumbed-down and degenerate man-centric (human supremacist) society at EVERY level.

My kitties want to know why I'm petting and kissing them so much. The mention of "dehydration" is chilling because----sorry for the anecdote----all my kitties are ex feral, old, and ill. Cats are picky about water and it can kill them, so I fill their fountains with spring water. People can die from dehydration, too, because it can really sneak up on you. Horses are surprisingly delicate, so I'd be shocked if a horse like Amarra didn't feel it especially hard if that makes sense. Horses are big puppies, like I said. They can feel emotions, too. I'm sure all the love she's getting now is kind of startling to her. Her bones sticking out like that are kind of shocking, too. Baby girl needs her strength. You need to remember to take care of yourselves, too, all you lovely people.

I'm a 77 year old man. Had some nasty physical issues and couldn't move. My family stuck with me and was always there talking to me. You wouldn't believe how much that meant to me. I think what you were doing with Amara talking and stroking her, to her you were her family. I'm sure that meant everything to her. I could see how it meant for you as well. Your heart to these abused animals goes way beyond just feeding watering and brushing and meds. Those animals can feel what's inside of you.

We don’t have the RSPCA and we have the ASPCA and if it happened in a different state not much can be done. Honestly though, many animal rights groups are going too far and wanting to limit animal use instead of help and if it was an Amish horse that’s a whole different ball of wax.

❤ Dr. Julie: "A down horse is a dead horse!" You called it right about Amara not being able to stand up after that left hind leg fell asleep after being down on it for so long. Dr. Amber said the wounds were "superficial" and immediate doctoring started with cleaning and wound dressing. Your medical interventions are so timely and are saving these beautiful Belgians. ❤ Dr. Waggoner at MVP easily inserted that nose hose for electrolytes for "mild pneumonia" and then the IV for "dehydration." ❤Yay! Dr. Cory, you called it right on the dehydration. Thank y'all ahead of time for going forward with the x-rays of Amara's legs and the blood work. After the mention of the "mild colic," there was no more on that. Hope that continues! My observation is that you're running just to stay in place, to play catch-up as Amara had no medical or health care wherever she was before. Shame of the previous owners who worked her, almost to death, causing that black spot in the first place on her rump. The doc cleaned it, and the scab fell off. ❤❤❤"Well Bless Your Heart" is the perfect t-shirt, Julie, for YOU! Thank you for pasting the ointment on the cavity left by the scab falling off the black spot and for dedicating your life to the welfare of these beautiful Belgians by rescuing them.

The poor dear, that appears to be a layer of necrotic tissue covering the skin on her rear end. Thankyou so very much for taking her straight to the doctor for a full exam and investigations, she's a sweet, precious elderly lady who deserves all you're doing, but you're probably the only ones who would give her such care and love.

Omg Julie..it's 💔 to see poor Amara struggle with her injuries like this. It looks like she might have fallen out of a moving trailer on the road or something. Those abrasions on her face and side, ugh poor girl. At least she doesn't have any fractures (hopefully). Thank you so much for being a light in this world, to all who assist in these rescues! 💜 That Bowie Livestock place seems so stupid to try to con you after you've rescued 'how many' abused & hopeless Belgians from them? They should know what your mission is about by now, and yet they still want make it appear like the horses are 'sound & rideable'. Shame on them. 😣

Sweet girl. Thanks for taking such good care of her. I think between her accident & the stress of traveling here & there before you rescued her. She got stressed dehydrated & sore. Not feeling well. She looked more comfortable. She might need some Chiropractor work. Might have some trauma from her fall. Some adjustment would do her good! I sure helps me when I get knocked out of place! Keeping her in my prayers!

That is so disgusting that these people can treat their hard working animals so cruelly. How do they treat their children, if they treat their horses so badly. These people should be charged. Thank you for being so loving and kind to these beautiful horses. Bless you all 🙏💗💗

My heart goes out to Mira, she is absolutely beautiful! I wish people would treat their animals the way they would want to be treated. Any animal has feelings and feel pain like we do, they just want love and be taken care of. They have an unconditional love and we as humans need to embrace that. I'm so happy there are people like you, that rescue horses, we need more like you! Thank you for sharing her with us and keep up the good work❣️ Carrie from Washington state
