How to Hook-Up Your Dryer Using Flexible Foil Duct and Clamps
Welcome to this video on how to hook-up a UL listed flexible aluminum foil duct to your dryer. Overall Imperial offers 3 options for this type of hook-up which you can combine to create your perfect clothes dryer ventilation system. You have the option of using tension clamps, worm gear clamps, and quick connect elbows. In this video we will feature hooking up an Imperial 4 inch UL listed flexible aluminum foil duct to your dryer using Imperial tension clamps or worm gear clamps. This project should take you between 10 to 15 minutes to complete. You will need a 4 inch UL listed and labelled flexible aluminum foil clothing dryer transition duct, 2 tension clamps or worm gear clamps, a utility knife, wire cutters, and a slot or hex screwdriver of you're using worm gear clamps. We encourage you to make safety a priority and recommend you wear safety glasses and work gloves. If your dryer exhaust port is recessed or too short for you to secure your duct to it an exhaust port duct extender will need to be installed as we show you in the video linked here and in the description bar below.

No lets get the installation started. First you'll need to secure one end of the flexible foil duct to your dryer exhaust port. Slide the clamp over the flexible foil duct. Then slide the duct over the dryer exhaust port. Now position the clamp over the duct and exhaust port in order to create a seal. If you are using tension clamps the tension mechanism will create the tight seal but if you're using a worm gear clamp you'll need to tighten the clamp with the slot or hex screwdriver. Now move your dryer to its permanent position. Extend the duct and determine your required length to complete your installation. Once you have determined the desired length cut the foil with the utility knife, cut the wire with wire cutters, and discard the excess duct. Next you are going to connect the duct to the wall vent exhaust pipe. To do this simply slide the clamp over the flexible foil duct. Then slide the duct over the wall vent exhaust pipe. Position the clamp over the duct and wall venting exhaust pipe in order to create a seal. Again if you are using tension clamps the tension mechanism will create the tight seal but if your using a worm gear clamp you'll need to tighten the clamp wit the slot or hex screwdriver. Before using your dryer make sure that everything is working properly. Check that there are no air flow restrictions in your duct like kinks, holes, or lint. Turn on your dryer and check the air flow of your exhaust system. Keep in consideration that your dryer exhaust system may not be at optimal operating performance. If you live in a cool climate you may want to consider installing a draft blocker. Also if you are concerned with animals entering and nesting in your dryer exhaust system you may want to install a pest guard over your cap.
