NEW CHANNEL NAME! Can the Flex 24V Brushless reciprocating saw edge out the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Sawzall? Or is it another disappointment? NOTES BELOW
Note 1: Wood w/ nails was performed with ORBITAL MODE on for both saws.
Steel bar stock and threaded rod were done with orbital mode off for both saws.
Forgot to include that in the video, been a long day!
Note 2: Yes, the blade looked worn on the first run of the M18. I had a "false start" where I got about 1/3 through the rod and it came loose from my clamps. So the blade did have that wear on it, plus the bar stock. It may have hurt the M18's performance a bit. I am always trying to improve and will take note for next time!
Note 3: I think the M18's bad wood run was due to being at the edge of a knot, seen in the second camera shot.

Just a few things. 1. You need to Secure the testing material better then the plastic bench and vices. The material is bouncing all over. 2. Stamp time 4:58 you start the Milwaukee out with a used blade not a new blade like you started the flex that’s makes a huge difference
@PhillyFixed

Thanks, Anthony. You're right about the bench, I am building my workbench which will also serve better for tests like this. On the all-thread, I had a false start with the M18, the thread came loose from my clamps. So I cut about 1/2 way through the rod and then had to re-try my first run. I'll make sure to have spare blades on hand in the future. Thanks for watching!

Nice comparison! I think the other KZbinrs “may” have been a bit miffed because they got review tools sent to them and were under NDAs. You bought yours so no holding back! As I said before, it’s great to have competition, but for Flex they will have to offer something more to entice current and new consumers over to their tools. That has to be either better price and/or better value AND an out-of-the-gate range of tools. I’m in the homeowner/DYI projects category and looking to see what line will be best for me in price, range and power when I may need it. I love the Skil PwrCore 12 and 20 tools for their decent performance and excellent value (also Chervon) but the range is small so Ryobi is a better fit, or buy DeWalt or Milwaukee when the deals are there. It will be interesting to see what Flex offers tomorrow! Thanks again!
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed 3 жыл бұрын
I love Ryobi, but buy more expensive stuff for certain tools that need a lot of power like 1/2" impact wrench or circ saws. I have a mix of Ryobi, makita, and a few M12 tools. That is, I did before this channel 🤣 I actually borrowed the M18 super sawzall, it's not even mine!
@FunAtDisney
@FunAtDisney 3 жыл бұрын
@@PhillyFixed Yep, it always comes down to cost! I do have a corded Bosch miter saw, and an older Ryobi table and circ saw (very heavy) going back to when we redid our kitchen, flooring and other projects. When it comes to a hammer drill & impact drive comb kit yes, I’d like the power in those while still being compact. (The main reason for the hammer drill is in the garden using a planting auger to dig holes in our clay-like soil.) But for other tools, multi-tool, jigsaw and a saw circ saw a 12-v system would be fine for finish work and so on. (I would like to also get a 1/4” compact router, pin nailer and a few other things eventually.) And there in lies the rub and finding one brand that offers all of that at a decent price. Thanks again!

You should put a new blade on every time to make it even. Using a new blade with one tool and then a used blade with the next tool is defiantly giving you inconsistent results for sure
@davboston

I added some notes in the description. But the same Flex metal blade was used on the bar stock followed by the all thread. Same with M18 except I had a false start on the M18 and cut about 1/3 through the all thread when it came loose. So it had 1/3 of a cut worth of wear on it when I showed my first pass.

Great work. With regard to the Milwaukee stalling out the one time. It appears the cut angle was not at a 90 for the blade, which is not a big issue in of it self. However, the it appear you were also pulling the tool to the side as well. These two factors will bind the blade. Take a look at it. You’ll see how the saw body is off center from the cut angle. Keep up the work.

The reason why the milwaukee is cutting slower is because the blade is moving too fast, you'll have to put more pressure on it. When cutting its importing to use correct blade, speed, and pressure. A slower moving blade on metal can cut through it faster at the right amount of pressure

But hey, when I'm under a vehicle and need to cut metal away, I can conveniently take the whole thing to a secure clamping device and have solid, vibration free, perfect world scenarios time after time 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 .... The flex dominated!!! That's impressive especially knowing that the Milwaukee is an absolute beast of a saw!!!! No fan boyism here, no nut huggery! Nobody makes the "best everything" , if they did, there'd be no competition. Please keep the imperfect wobbly tests coming!!!!! Those of us who actually use tools, greatly appreciate it!!!!!!

In reality, with all the different channels with inconsistent results it does not sway me from my Milwaukee, DeWalt or Makita line. Nothing seems ground breaking from Flex. Maybe for new tool buyers, but I would still go tried and true at their prices..

Maybe not for people already invested in those other lines, but for someone new to the game (like myself) looking to upgrade to a better product. The Limited Lifetime Warranty on tool and battery for the product launch seems pretty sweet.

There is only about 10% advantage to FLX. But think something wrong with blade w/ MWK per comment, ie, you had a bad blade. So realistically, don't see sufficient reason for MWK, DWL, MKT owners to race out and replace tools with FLX.

Nice video! On the all thread with Milwaukee it looked like the blade was spent before you started the all thread test. The Flex blades looked good or new for all tests. Did you use new blades for both tools for each test?

I have been using Milwaukee brand for 35 yrs and they always work. I have used other brands but always come back to Milwaukee. They just hold up better in the long run. Now not every Milwaukee tool is good, just saying overall consistency of quality is my factor. What will the Flex tool be like in 5 years?

I’ll snatch these Flex tools when they go on clearance in a year or so. They can’t compete with well established companies like Milwaukee and Denuts. And not at the outrageous prices they want too. Terrible name and boring color choice. Major fail! Go Birds!🦅🦅🦅

Great videos! Thanks for the solid content. I'm thinking the inconsistencies in the grain direction/density of the wood is to play. ADVICE: pick straight (ish) grain wood with no significant grain direction anomalies or knots. Those areas are generally much harder and can steer the blade in a warped and difficult kerf.

you should have used a new blade for each saw you used the blade for the flex first then changes it over to the m18 it does make a difference due to heat and friction or at least should have moved the heel out to place fresh teeth in position for the cut with the M18 .. not saying the flex ore m18 is better as I dont really care what one is better as I buy Durability ad longevity over Speed and power just the tests was not really a proper controlled test ..great video though well done and simple

Just test the damn saws like you would actually use them. Project farm tries to get too cute sometimes with all the hanging weights and shit attempting to apply the same exact amount of pressure. Free weights bouncing and swinging around all over the place are not applying constant pressure at all. If you just use the saws normally, each attempt for each saw on a given material would probably be within less than 1 second of each other
@TheMrReee

Interesting, but if like most, you've already heavily invested in a particular platform, a couple of seconds either way isn't going to persuade most tradesmen to dump £1000's of tools just to jump ship.

1: milwaukee saw isn't really meant to use that small of a battery. 2: you were cutting down the side if the nail with the milwaukee. 3: you did the all-thread test with a worn out blade. 4: you had the material clamped wrong, need to close up on the cut to reduce vibration.

It was pretty fair when you were cutting the metal, but when you were cutting the wood, you held the wood for the flex twice, you never held the would for the sawzall, and on the second cut you could see the entire table and the machine on the table moving. Why did you not hold the would?

I don't require my tools be the fastest, just fast is OK. But my tools have to be reliable, Milwaukee tools have been for the most part. Cordless performance depends a lot on the battery, same amp hours and watts are not be the same if discharge rates are different.

Just found your channel. Great stuff so far! Keep it up! I don't know if anyone mentioned this but the shoe pivot on the Flex is in a bad spot. It should be just below the contact point of the blade, like the Milwaukee. That is why the work surface was jumping around, mainly when cutting the metal pieces is when it is noticeable. Hopefully they will fix that because it is an easy way for someone to get bit by the saw.
