Drilling through joists has always been an issue and often results in multiple entry points. The Flexi Drill has been designed to overcome this issue, the red ball preventing any mis-direction. Our primary drill bit is 1.2 metres in length, which is ideal for navigating through awkward obstructions on the bend.

That tool works okay. But if the hole is too small for the ball to fit through, or if you’re drilling through, more than one noggin, you’re better off with rodderscope

+Al Pringle Nothing is that clean but you wouldn't see much if the void was full of fibreglass. I went to do a job once and there were about 50 porn mags stashed under the floor It tooks us an extra 4 hours to read them and then we had to put them all back.after we had run the cables.

i like the ball thats attached to the bit you would definatly have less stress about popping a hole somewhere you dont want one. Its insane at how many awesome tools we have to get cables in the most tricky places. I install satellite tv for dish and definatly know the pain in the ass it is to not have the right tool when trying to fish cables

I love the idea behind this but it drills a bit low in the joist as a rule I would normally drill in the middle of the joist to achieve regs

A hole drilled with this is not 50mm distance required from the surface for the cable to be clear of screws/nails in (the UK).

A lot of these type of gadgets have their use, but I would be very wary of drilling blindly in a void where there may be cables or pipework clipped along the joist you intend to drill through.

This bit does not work as shown. Because in video shows bit stands straight when it goes thru light fixture hole. In practice, bit curves upwards and it's hard to make straight hole on joist.
@SuperRodUK
@SuperRodUK 9 жыл бұрын
Hi, Sorry you feel like this about the Flexi Drill Kit. The drill shank will curve if your entry point isn't direct to where you require the hole to be. The drill bit will give slightly due to the flex material, but you have to ensure - as is the case with the video above - that your cable run is straight and clear before attempting to drill. Although the above video is clipped and edited for KZbin, it still demonstrates a real-life scenario and was created by an electrician looking to install down lights in a property.

+SuperRodUK....aint no damn way this footage is from the actual electricians work on site. Maybe the first part where it shows him entering the drill bit and struggling a lil with the angle....but the next shot where it shows the video footage is from a mock up you guys created....look at all the extra lighting in your clips...a lil hole wouldn't give that much light.

+uzcontractor Hi You are dead right in what you say but the device still has its uses. Nothing is perfect in all situations. If the joist is very close to the downlighter hole you might be able to put a flexi bit in. The thing is if the floor above is not accessible you do what you have to to get over the problem. We have to live in the real world but the one thing I do know is we are never beaten. You have to get the job done or you don't get paid.

How did it come into the other hole, how did you decide to make that hole knowing that drill bit will come there?
@AlbanianFix
@AlbanianFix 2 жыл бұрын
Also, how was the drill bit able to penetrate out of the spot light hole so far that you were able to pull it out even more so you could tie the mule? Wouldn't the ball stop it from doing just that? The whole video seems like a big misinterpretation on how this would go in real life scenarios.

Cool idea! But in a floor joist you'll want to drill in the center area to avoid weakening the joist. Not that your house will collapse with a few holes but it's kind of a general rule.

good luck lol. there is a reason why he charged u 500$ . just the cans and high hat trims will cost you 200$ buying low end materials, not even including the tools and Parts and pieces which electricians carry on hand. by the end of this project you will probably be in over 300$ and and you will have probably realized that the quote you got was actually quite reasonable if not a good deal depending on where you live.

You need an endoscope camera. Depending on the situation , you will have to drill a small hole in the sheetrock to get the camera in there. Worth doing though because you don't want to drill through a wire or pipe.

This video doesn't make any sense. Firstly from what i understand the ball is not stationary and locked into position on the drill bit. In other words it has to move freely along the drill shaft, you can see this at 2:34 when the "electrician" snags the bit and pulls it out through the hole. If the ball was stationary this would not have been possible. If the ball moves freely then inserting the drill bit into the originating hole not knowing what could obstruct the ball from moving further back towards the drill bit would make the drill bit wonder all over the place. Secondly what I found amusing was that the "electrician" tied a pull string to the end of the drill bit followed by a flex fish which was tied to the actual wire itself. Why not tie the pull string directly to the cable?

Hi Mark, When you buy the Flexi Drill Kit it does indeed come with the red guide ball. The ball itself is actually made out of wood and has a brass insert through the centre acting as a cushion. You can find out more information about this product via our website at: www.super-rod.co.uk/products/drilling-and-cutting/flexi-drill-kit/ Regards.

If you are considering using this....please do not. There are far more down sides to this approach then there are positives. 1.) You could potential hit a water line or drain..., yes obviously, before you use this bit, you will assess the situation and make sure there are no bathrooms, laundry rooms, or kitchens above the area. That being said, if your desired location for pot lights is anywhere previously mentioned, it's useless. 2.). What if an electrical line is severely damaged? You cannot legally make a splice in the damaged are, because burying a junction is illegal ....you probably won't have enough slack in the wire to do so. You're solution at this point is to either make an "illegal" splice, or to cause more damage then the existing job would have caused to remedy the problem properly. 3)....what if you "nick' an electrical line, just enough where the existing circuit is still functioning, but either the hot, or the neutral has been damaged? That is a potential FIRE hazard! .....This tool is for un qualified, un certified electricians, that's don't know the potential risks involved, and frankly don't care about the home owner after they get paid. These guys undercut " real" electricians, who have morals

Not sure how this tool is any different than using a standard flex drill bit without the ball. If you are running romex behind walls it's pretty much a standard procedure to use a flex drill bit. Of course, you just need to mKe sure there are no pipes and/or plumbing near it
