My math class over 53 years ago had no math textbooks, no student desks, no serious lectures, we had beanbag chairs, a couch, cushions, & a soft upholstered chair. We were encouraged to play all the board games with each other & to explore whatever else we wanted to do. I became an elementary school teacher & then a math teacher.

My math class 54 years ago was a traditional, individual-desks-in-rows classroom as were my classrooms the 4 previous years. All I remember about the year before in half-day kindergarten was when the teacher left part way through the year. Some of us were crying as she rolled up her big circular story time rug and took it with her. I became a quality control inspector of sheet metal parts, a first article inspector of aluminum investment castings, a college math student, a secondary education student, a substitute teacher, a stay-at-home homeschooling mom of 2, back to substituting, and finally a secondary math SpEd teacher with one adult kid who is also a secondary math SpEd teacher and one adult kid who is a research engineer/scientist working on his PhD. So what? It's all anecdotal. But cool that you had a great experience at a progressive school over 55 years ago.

Flexibility includes the ability to listen and follow up.

Im wondering if they also have flexible classrooms for highschoolers and how are they set-up...a video for such (if it exists) would be a good benchmark for other schools around the globe..

How does the teacher teach??? Does she go around to each child or group? Is there whole group teaching? How much time is allotted for students to be by themselves whereever they want?

I don't disagree with the philosophy and the flexible nature of classrooms that you are talking about. The statistics at the end of the video look great. But, Albemarle County is the county that contains Charlottesville, VA and the University of Virginia. I am curious what's going on in the City of Charlottesville schools, which have a much different and less middle class/affluent population as Albemarle County which surrounds it.

This is wonderful! Sadly, I can barley fit the 34 desks needed into my room. Maybe I can make small changes...

It is such a wonderful and perfect environment for diversity of learners. Sadly, it is not likely to happen here in the Philippines, we have very poor education system and not prioritize by the government.

Teachers should. not be purchasing furniture for their classrooms or building it. Schools should provide for the furniture needs. If a teacher built item collapses and harms a student or a group of students, that teacher can be held legally liable for the injury.
