Thanks for this. This is really an object lesson in perspective. I've been an engineer for 35+ years, I came from tape so my workflow has always been based around careful gain staging, because back then you had to. I've been spending way too much time messing with the outputs of samplers/VSTs to make sure they hit my meters at -18 dBVU. Just finding the master output on some VST instruments can be a chore at times if you're not using them everyday. All good practice...but...what I missed is that because the signal path is 64bit, as long as the VST isn't clipping internally, it's much faster to just gain the output using the pre gain on the channel, that way your signal is healthy before it hits the inserts etc. This method is way way faster.

This was absolutely wonderful. Thank you. I hope the Halion goes on sale. The drag and drop from it doesn't work with the free version, but I can work around that until I can purchase the full. Thank you so much, Cubase is becoming a monster in my eyes..loving this.

hi grobin, I just wanted to share that everything in this video was done with the free Halion Sonic 7 that comes with Cubase 13.. if you want to tell me more about what drag and drop operation you are referring to, maybe I can clarify it for you, but for sure I wanted you to know you dont need the full Halion to do whats demonstrated here... andrew

@@TheDigitalAudioManual Thank you so much for the reply. I went back through your video, and what I noticed was the fact that I didn't have certain categories showing, such as 'Content Set'. That section for some reason confused the devil out of me. It took me a whole 5 minutes to get it together, reorder some things and follow what you did. The 'dragging' of the five instruments onto the track, creating five different instruments, was were I was stuck. Today i got it! Thank you so much for these videos. After I go thru this video, I'm heading back to your site. Again, thank you for the response.

I'm trying to follow this using 12, but it's difficult as it doesn't have the chord pad toolbar. I got the correct chords on the pads easy enough, but there's no step input button in 12, so not sure how to get around that...

Brilliant description of gain staging faders. They should never be "in the dirt". There is almost no resolution down there. Pre gain is the way...
@ErixSamson2 ай бұрын
I'd say the Gain is the Input Volume of the track while the fader controls the Outpout Volume. And you're right, Gain Staging is super important. The gain can also be managed directly on audio events, and it is not exactly the same behavior.
@TheDigitalAudioManual2 ай бұрын
hi Eric,, yes, you are correct, with a viable point of view, you always have good and thoughtful perspectives to share,,, for me personally its become,, pre gain is the course tune volume and faders are the fine tune volume,,,, andrew

Great video!! Thanks! How to edit, change the melody? Can we use score editor for that, especially if we upgrade to 14 version? How to set expression there? We need to compose eventually
@TheDigitalAudioManual27 күн бұрын
hi dmitry, the flexphraser is good for inspiration, and Iconica Sketch has a good set of sounds to begin with,, but if you want to compose,, then you need to compose, and typically that means actually playing the parts, the basic flexphaser will be of no help at that point, In the full version of Halion you have access to creating phrases but for all that I would just create my parts in the Cubase project and go from there,,, andrew

Good morning Mr. Andrew Blake. This was absolutely brilliant to set back and watch how you built this little arrangement. What is so sad about this is you told us in another video the Steinberg took the (Exploding the Chord) option out in Cubase 14. What you just did in Cubase 13 was masterful. I personally would love to duplicate what you just did in this video in Cubase 13 also in Cubase 14. Now I feel like I am going to wait to upgrade to Cubase 14 because of what you just showed me/us in Cubase 13. This was absolutely amazing to me. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to complain to Steinberg to put the (Exploding the Chord option) back into Cubase 14? This is to wonderful, to take this option out in Cubase 14. Please get back to me on this issue. What’s you have done in this video has open up so many possibilities and opportunities to make even better orchestrational creations. Thank you so much for making this video. I absolutely loved watching create this demonstration of what you can do with (Exploding the Chord) option, in Cubase 13. I want this option put back in Cubase 14. As usual I wish you continued success with all of your future music videos and endeavors and I also wish you continued success financially as well. I am going to try to contact Steinberg and suggest to them that they should watch this video and suggest that they put this feature back into Cubase 14. Thank you, thank you, thank you for showing and sharing your knowledge with us beginning Cubase users. Have a wonderful day and weekend.

thank you orrin once again for your heart felt thoughts and comments,, they mean a lot to me. Yes I would encourage you to go to the Cubase Forum and let them know you want your features back. It looks to me like they are listening and making lists of the things people want,, so let them know what you think. Also if you havent seen it yet, I made another video how you can still explode the chords in Cubase 14,,, I'll put the link here for you,, all the best, andrew..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6CseaOlmq-FgpY

@ I don’t anything about a Cubase forum but, I will find out about it. Thank you. I hope that I will be able to get some support with other Cubase users to help me try to get Cubase to Explode back into the Cubase. I am going to get them to see this video and recommend they reinstate the Explode the chord feature. I never heard anything about Explode the chord until I seen one of your videos. Thank you again for introducing me to this feature.
