I worked on towers for 10 years. If you wanted to reach that 300 foot mark to fix the tiles you’d need to get a man basket attachment for a crane (looks like a small metal grated telephone booth.) Last I knew one of the biggest man lifts they make is the JLG superboom and it only goes to 185’. Those are extremely scary by the way. When you’re up there they sway back and forth like 15 feet in even the slightest wind and when you come down after a full day you feel like the ground is swaying underneath you. It’s a very interesting feeling. I’d imagine they destack unless they have that crane attachment.

@alexlabs4858 I think the white lifting boom goes over 90 meters, not sure if it would reach the tile area though.

I think they might just fly it with those missing tiles. They are positioned where a burn-through will not hamper the mission because they aren't using those engines to land. I bet they've got them all instrumented up and cameras pointed at them from the inside and so on. You must remember: they aren't building a one-off rocket. They are designing a product to be reproduced in quantity. It is always best to discover your faults and weaknesses in the design phase, rather than once the product is in production. I'm not sure about rockets, but in most manufacturing the general rule is that it costs ten times as much to catch a problem in production than in design, and it costs ten times as much to catch a problem in live use than in production. Plus, the ship survived quite a bit of reentry with that plasma washing over it's unprotected top surfaces. That would sure make me want to know just how much the skin can take. I doubt that these missing tiles will cause a mission failure, but I bet there's a lot they can learn from flying without them.

The wet dress rehersal pause was a count down hold test, they figured they could hold a fully fueled stacked vehicle for 30 minutes without having to perform an abort or detank. They wanted to verify they actually had that ability, since any temporary obstruction to the launch can take more than 30 minutes to clear, like a boat off in the danger area, they don't have to resort to immediatly aborting and detanking to try another day. Improving reliablility of launches.

So if the time frames work out, flight 4 gets flown, then the maintenance to the pad and tower start along with flight 5 preps, and at that same time tower 3 gets fully stacked within the two months or so flight 5 flies. Then we could have flight 6 and 7 which would be the end of v1 starships (maybe it’s a long shot) fly back to back. I’m just not sure how long it would take to plum the tower 3 tank farm and to get it all online. But if they could do something like that would be so cool. Like I said I think it’s a long shot… but maybe it’s on the table.. by the end of the year if they would do that but I think that tower 1 will launch the rest of version 1 starships and hopefully a successful catch, that caught booster… I think booster 13
