In the early '80's I was lucky enough to fly along side this very same zero, I being in the nose of a B-25; 'In The Mood' and the zero flying just to our right side almost right under our wing tip along with an F-6F Hellcat, a P-51 and an F-4F Corsair. It was an unforgettable experience!

I was also told by a Japanese warbird fan, that obtaining certification for old aircraft like this one, is very difficult in Japan. So even if there were air-worthy examples around, they probably wouldn't be flying in Japan : ( Luckily the US let's these beautiful birds fly again. I actually live not too far from where these planes were originally built. I used to work on the factory grounds.

This wasn’t Japanese engineering. I believe it was an American design that was first offered to the army air corps who at the time was not gearing up for war and had enough bi-planes in service. Designer asked us government permission to shop around the world for a buyer and was given the okay to sell plans. The Japanese government was in need to a better all around fighter and bought the plans and rights to build the plane and the rest is history.

WOW, extremely cool. There's one here in the air museum on Ford ISland, Pearl Harbor, Hawai'i, but it has a the engine from a Grumman Wildcat, and it no longer flies. My dad was a WWII Pacific Theater veteran, and he always thought the Zero was a great looking airplane. When I turn 7 my dad bought me my very first model airplane kit, and it was 1/48 scale Zero (along with a Hellcat, and a P-38), and we built it together. I still have all 3 models 55 years later. That plane has a special place in my heart. Belated thank you for sharing the great video footage.

1/48th scale Monogram models? Those are the ones my brother and I used to buy from Woolworths on cold winter Saturdays in Upper Michigan and spend hours building and painting. I had a P-38, Hurricane, P-47 Thunderbolt, my brother had a Focke Wulf and others I cannot recall. Unfortunately, I no longer have those original models, kudos to you on your preservation skills.

Kepe it was superior to WW1 and early WW2 Tactics and if you want a comparable fighter that lived in service longer than the zero is the spitfire and the spitfire is also nearly as great and if you wanna say quite far in war, if Americans got gloster meteors the fucking Japanese would see squadrons of weird looking bombers then they attack thinking they can calculate its speed yet one problem it is fucking fast meaning they have to shoot blind to hit the damn thing since the measurements would be good enough to down a B-29 also the fucking zero has no chance of killing the damn thing unless you are a time traveler and you manage to dive at the exact time of striking at LEAST ONE Also I did not mean to harm your opinion but at least it can stay up to date during most of WW2, not it can fight a MIG-15- and down it that is saying I give the middle finger the drag and gravity

The Zero has the magic ability to travel great distances due to its lightweight and lack of armor. You can shoot them down with a multiple shots from a pistol if they fly low enough, slow enough. As a big fan of war movies, the A6M always fascinates me since I was a kid.

Glad to see this aircraft is still flying. I saw it fly at the Planes of Fame Air Show at Chino in the early '80s. It flew in formation with various US fighters from the Pacific (P-40, P-38, and a Corsair, maybe?) and a US torpedo bomber. The US fighters then took turns being the one jumped by the Zero and vice versa to show the strengths and weaknesses of both, and they demonstrated the Thatch Weave. It was an amazing thing to see. The torpedo bomber didn't stand a chance when jumped by the Zeke, but a couple of the US fighters swooped in and "saved" him. Pappy Boyington was at that air show, too. I saw him from a distance, but he was pretty much being mobbed for autographs.
