Amazing, did not expect the direct flight over Queen Street and City Hall! Cool to see the EuroLOT planes still parked in St. Thomas 🇵🇱🇨🇦. Cheers!
@skyhawkadventures93743 ай бұрын
The EuroLOT planes keep changing at St. Thomas, but 90% are off lease from Europe. Others are Alaska Airlines planes. The ones that I’ve noticed that have gone to new airlines, have all gone to Africa. The routing I got over downtown for a right downwind is not common, but there was no other traffic in the area. Other times I’ve been routed south of the airport for a left downwind. You’ll notice that the controller asked if I can accept it. A standard altitude for downwind is 1000’ AGL, which would be 1252’ AGL. To give adequate clearance above the buildings we had to fly higher and follow a path that is also non-standard. For new pilots, that can be overwhelming, so they always ask if you can accept anything that is non-standard. Thanks for watching.

@skyhawkadventures93743 ай бұрын
@@3rdperiodhockey I’m glad you enjoyed it. Without going into great detail, there are essentially two main kinds of communication that a pilot makes. 1. To air traffic control, where you’re asking for permission(or a clearance) to do something, or being told to do something. When they give directions, then they are just repeated back to ensure that you understand what’s being asked. 2. When in uncontrolled airspace, just making calls to everyone on the frequency advising what you are planning to do. In that case, the pilot’s are ensuring that they understand where everyone is and what they’re planning to do. There are rules though, which help to keep us from banging into each other. Think of a 4 way stop on a roadway. As long as everyone follows the rules, then everyone is safe from collision. It’s really just a foreign language that the average person doesn’t understand. No different from when you hear people speaking a language you don’t understand. Thanks for flying along with us.

Great video, I live in Toronto and it would take me longer to get to a jays game 😂. Quick question do you have to pay to park your plane at billy bishop?
@skyhawkadventures93743 ай бұрын
At Billy Bishop there is terminal/tiedown/parking fee. It’s about $80 a day. The cost is charged by the company or municipality that operates the terminal for private aircraft. There is also a landing fee of about $25. Most airports that I travel to only have fees of about $20 a night and usually waive the first night if you buy fuel. I’ve paid similar or higher fees at any airport of a similar size. Big airports come with big fees, so usually a secondary airport is the best choice when going to a large city. Toronto has a jewel of an airport in Billy Bishop.

@skyhawkadventures93743 ай бұрын
It was 2.4 hours air time there and return. I had a headwind one way and a tailwind the opposite way. We didn’t stay the night. That was our goal as we wanted to avoid paying a small fortune for a downtown hotel. If I’m flying home the same day, I also avoid spending crazy money on a beer at the dome. Glad you enjoyed flying along with us. The downside is that it only works for an afternoon game as the airport closes at 11 pm, except for medevac, police and search and rescue aircraft. As long as you have taken care of the requirements ahead of time, clearing customs is a matter of a couple minutes.

@@justinc5356 that was on August 11, so after the change to the services. My understanding is that the only change to the procedure is that it’s PPR for doing the city tour. I’ve been into CYTZ 3 times in the last couple of weeks and have had zero issues. I also have transited the zone and also had zero issues. I didn’t bother requesting flight following for this flight as two of the last three times, I was denied flight following. What I’ve noticed is that over the last couple of years, the controllers seem to be way busier than ever before, so I understand them not wanting to deal with VFR traffic doing the city tour.
