“Collateral,” starring Tom Cruise & Jamie Foxx, and directed by Michael Mann, is my all-time favorite contained thriller. This is a favorite, because the film is both contained, yet sprawling, as the film takes place in a taxicab over the course of one night, focusing on the relationship between Cruise and Foxx’s characters as they venture throughout seedy Los Angeles.

Many people mention Red Eye. I assume the 2005 film with Cillian Murphy. I agree it’s a fine movie. Thrilling. The only, and major issue I have, is Cillian. Why would anyone want to cozy up to someone like that. Or find him intriguing. Handsome and charming, according to the synopsis. ??? Puleeze. He’s a major creepazoid even when he’s not trying to be. Major red flags before he even does anything. The audience (me) is screaming GET AWAY! But dopey gog-goo eyed Rachel McAdams is too dense to notice. He’s a great actor for sure, but telegraphs ‘evil’ way too early. Took me out of the moment… how can people be such poor judges of character.

Mel said in an interview he took this script on so he could practise his directing skills in preparation for either Lethal 5 or Passion of the Christ whichever one gets backing from the studio, he said he was rusty and not ready to do a long unforgiving gig so needed to get back into film making with a small independent style film or tv pilot and this was the perfect style of script, short, not complicated with a small cast in one room.

Jeremy is a surprisingly good actor. That wince when he “threw someone from the plane” got me

The line where the pilot over the radio says “you’ll be less flammable” is actually a good line. Pilots and ATCs keep in mind the amount of fuel on board when they are in a mayday situation. And if pilots have the opportunity to burn fuel by flying in a circuit around the airport, they will do so in case they crash on landing.

The "you'll be less flamable" line actually makes sense. Assuming they have enough to get to where they are going to try to land, you want to have a bare minimum of gas when you are going to do an emergency landing because of the risk of fire.

I am sorry to say, but it does not make any sense. Aviation fuel is flammable, but less volatile than gasoline, so if you absolutely don't plan to crash your plane into pieces during landing, you want to hold onto as much fuel as possible. It not only gives you the chance of being able to re-try the landing (which happens in emergency landings), but some engines have the ability to produce backward trust, helping the plane to stop faster. Also, there are situation during landing, where you would need extra engine power, as planes does not work like cars and the throttle does not instantly convert to speed or lift. The reason that fuel could be a problem for emergency landing is the plane being too heavy to land, either because it exceeds the safe limit of landing weight, or the place they are landing is too short and with the extra weight they wouldn't be able to stop before crashing into something.

There's a film called Unknown. 5 guys wake up in a warehouse, some are hostages and some are kidnappers but they don't initially remember who they are. Brilliant premise

Jeremy, you know this but Mark coming out of the fog during the fire extinguisher. I saw this film on 4DX. It was an experience to be had.

This was directed by Mel Gibson? However you feel about him as a person, he's usually a pretty great director.

This is reflective of his insane hard right turn lately. His appearance on Joe Rogan was just gross. Conspiracy peddling about the California fires, denying evolution. He's become a real prick lately. Trump bootlicker. Sad to see him fall so bad. Let's not forget his wonderful phone calls to his x a few years back. He's clearly a racist too.
