Loving watching your videos, the DA42 is a beautiful aircraft to fly. I was lucky enough to fly it in NZ and in the UK during training. Sadly our sorties weren't usually as jovial as yours! Would be awesome to fly one again. All the best.

Hi Richard, I presume that you check the NOTAM’s to see when the Millitary airspace over Wales is active, as on flight radar 24, I’ve seen the RAF training over Wales, right into the Irish Sea - there is a Millitary airfield at Valley and another civil airfield at Hawarden in North Wales, which I’ve seen on the train between Chester & Holyhead on my way home from Manchester to Dublin on SailRail, which I’ve been doing for 21 years living in the U.K. with extended family in Ireland - I’ve already seen the Beluga taking off from Hawarden on the train when we were held there and the Welsh train drivers on TfW tell me that they have special procedures on the North Wales line with special signals for when these airfields are active - once, our train was not allowed to leave Chester because an emergency flight was landing at Chester Aerodrome and another time our train was held near Valley for a similar emergency reason, delaying our arrival into Holyhead

Wonderful video - thank you. 12,000 ft and no oxygen? - presumably just for a short time. Beautiful passenger (the one in the front I mean!)
@richardtyrer3 жыл бұрын
Hi David! Thanks so much for the feed back! Yes, in FAA aircraft you are allowed 30 minutes in-between 12500ft and 14000ft without Oxygen. If I have pax who I know it might be an issue I won't go as high, but I have an Oximeter I use to keep an eye on everyone just in case! I've told the rear passenger to make more of an effort next time! 😂
@tgm99913 жыл бұрын
@@richardtyrer But wouldn't a foreign registered aircraft need to follow the rules in The ANO regarding supplementary oxygen whilst within UK airspace which is slightly stricter? Think its 30mins between 10,000 and 13,000
@Democrazyandfreespeechfirst3 жыл бұрын
@@richardtyrer great mountain flying. Beautiful pictures. I think it’s the better way, you have oxygen on just for safety and in case as a pilot. But of course its your decision as an educated experienced pilot in command. Enjoy your videos in your lovely DA 42 anyway. Take care and always happy landings.

@@richardtyrerwhat are the current rules regarding GA flights between the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland post-Brexit and post -Covid? Living in Manchester (although closer to Barton & Liverpool) my family live closer to Dublin and I’ve always wanted this fun way to go home across the Irish Sea to visit family (I think I’d make a good First Officer lol) 🇮🇪☘️🇬🇧❤️

As per the comments, the video's are brilliant! Just a quick question, I'm currently on an MEP course and find it quite challenging taxiing the DA42. Is it better to taxi at a relatively faster speed?
@richardtyrer3 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy 😄 On taxiways keep it steady, but in this video I was backtracking an active runway so you can taxi at a faster speed to expedite. Manoeuvring on an apron I use a mix of differential power and braking, it’s easy once you get the hang of it!

Looked like a lovely day for flying! Out of interest, is that a Clarity Aloft you're using? Do you prefer that to the Lightspeeds?
@richardtyrer3 жыл бұрын
Honestly I think the Clairty Aloft are brilliant. They are on par with noise cancelling headsets without having to use active noise reduction. They are super light and you don’t break the seal if you wear sunglasses etc. But I got Lightspeed’s for the passengers as I think they are the best headset where you don’t have to share earbuds 🤣
@cjrp03 жыл бұрын
@@richardtyrer interesting, thanks! I’m using a set of DCs with ANR added, which were great in the DA20 but not really enough for the 172 - plus the faff of wearing glasses. I’ll definitely look into the CA, thanks

No worries! If you do order I would say buy some extra ear buds at the same time (there are 3 sizes, I use medium). They come from the USA so saves shipping costs later on!

great video. What is your source for traffic on foreflight please
@richardtyrer3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. The traffic on foreflight is ADSB out aircraft. It's great for spacial awareness, and also great if your looking at jets above you in the airways wondering who they are!

drops are observed falling under the right wing, it is condensation or fuel
@richardtyrer3 жыл бұрын
When you fill the main tanks it's really easy to sightly overfill them so the fuel drips out the vent. Not an issue but you do get a few drops coming out (looks much worse than it is!!) Hope that helps! 😁

Hi Richard. Just found this channel by accident. Keeping me up far too late :-) Was it just the editing or did you take off with flaps?
@richardtyrer3 жыл бұрын
Hey! You have two procedures to take off in the DA42. Normal take off which uses no flaps, or the short field procedure which uses the APP flap. With some of the short runways in the UK I end up using procedure with flaps more!
@stuart.barkley3 жыл бұрын
@@richardtyrer Yeah, I ask 'cos I'm doing my ME-IR in a Twin Star (2006) and the POH says Flaps up in the pre-take-off checklist and no mention of flaps in the take-off checklist - so assume they have to be up. The problem with take-off with flap is if an engine fails at the worst point, you have so much asymmetric power and flap drag, you cannot even stay level. I stress this is for the old Twin Star, maybe things are better in the VI. But please do check :-)
@richardtyrer3 жыл бұрын
You do bring up a really good point. So the VI (which has more powerful engines) does have a short field procedure for flaps, with rotate at in the low 70kts and 50ft target in the high 70kts (figures depend on weight). VMCA is 68kts with flaps at approach. But you are right, if you have an engine failure you will barely climb, even at lower weights with flaps at APP. For private operations (so no factors added) you would consider it an exposure period, and mitigate it based on that. The flight manuals are free and available online (just google DA42 flight manual and it will take you to the Diamond website). Hope that helps!
