The show already had me hooked from the first few episodes, but once we got to this first performance, it really did it for me. It’s just such a few good show, despite the main girl pretty much being on the brink of death via social anxiety. And now I’m left with an inch that can’t be scratched until it comes back.

in high school i remember seeing the band i quit perform at a club and talk to my friends and going, "wait, not only the audience have to pay for live shows, but the bands too?!" :'D after that realizing how some ppl don't have a shed to practice in like we did, and how expensive renting some practice rooms can be, i was amazed that a bunch of ppl are still sinking insane amounts of money into their passion for playing music

I really like the bits of unique animation in this show. The scene of her counting her family members on her fingers and the one of Bocci glitching are good examples. It's a nice way of emphasizing a comedic moment.

The playing in this show is all rotoscoped motion capture so all the playing is accurate to what you would play in real life.

Rotoscoping and motion capture are two different things. You can't really "rotoscope motion capture" something. I suppose you could mocap something an then adjust it with rotoscoping afterwards but that'd be super redundant. Rotoscoping involves drawing overtop of live footage while motion capture is a digital technology involving tracking points with cameras. Through most of their performace they're in 3D and MoCap isn't usually used for close up shots of hands. So I'd hazard a guess and say at most they used motion capture for the broad body movements but still had to animate the details by hand. Was there behind the scenes footage of the process they used?

It's a mix of both,they hired actuals musicians to played the songs as references for the 2D animation of the character playing the instruments, for example when ryo was looking at nijika while playing her bass, that was not cg but they used reference from the musicians they hired to animated that and cg was also used but because studio Cloverwork is really good at hiding the cg (which is a good thing)so it really hard to pin point what exactly they used it for but it there lol

@@aceion6110 tbh I disagree about cloverworks hiding the cgi well, maybe my eye is like trained to spot it but it is very noticeable. They do a good job of compositing and putting the 2d style over the cgi but I can still see it.

@MetalCobra7 that the thing tho unless the viewer is a vateran that works in the industry or they are some sort of animation enthusiast that's passionate about the medium, they won't even realise that cg was used which a good thing, because we all know anime fans really hate jarring looking cg, Another thing that I find impressive is that Cloverwork not only used cg for the band performance scene they also used it for a lot of the mundane shot in the show and a lot of it goes unnoticed
