Donnovan Edwards lost the starting role to Mullings by game 2. Edwards is too much of a boom or bust back. Mullings is more of a bully ball David Montgomery type of runner and is more consistent of a runner so far. I think Michigan should work on using Edwards more in passing plays because he can catch the ball pretty good too, he could be a good check down guy for Orji

Michigan fans saw bits of Orji last year when Harbaugh put him in the game for a QB run to give J.J. McCarthy a breather. He generally picked up a goodly number of yards, so hopes were high for this year for a starting job for Orji. Fans looked at his H.S. stats which showed him completing about 50% of his passes with hints he had a strong but inaccurate arm, and shrugged their shoulders and thought "well, that proves he can throw a football". Then rumors began to leak out of spring camp and pre-season practices that Orji, despite having the body of a large Adonis, was so lacking in the passing dept. that he was dropping like a rock down the QB depth chart. He got lucky that one guy, Jack Tuttle, got injured, and the first choice for starter, Davis Warren, played poorly and threw too many interceptions early in the season, including IIRC, three in the game where Texas blew Michigan out of the game at home. Texas was the better team that day, but the final score reflected all the Blue turnovers and looked really bad. So, up pops Orji's number. I think the coaches' idea was that Michigan could win with running and stout defense if only its QB would stop throwing the football to guys wearing the wrong-colored jerseys. It turns out they were right, but only just barely. The 32 yards is unimportant. Zero interceptions was all that mattered. I know that is setting the bar really low for a QB in a major college program, sort of like painting a line on the ground. But what difference does it make if you win with three long pass plays or three long running plays? Orji had a fine day if evaluated under those parameters. Dude, you are being a little rough on Kalel Mullins. He's tasked with pounding the interior line all game long, and can't have the body of a gazelle to survive all that contact with larger D-line guys and big LBs. So, yes, he'll get caught from behind on long runs by 170 lbs. cornerbacks who are only on the field to show their unusual speed for human beings.
