Great tips. I have a super long trip from the USA (25+hours one way). Here are some things I do to improve my trip: 1-book trip from major airline website instead of discounter (easier to cancel trip in emergency) 2-prebook taxi like Trev recommended. I like Nam Taxi from Bangkok to Pattaya, but I'm sure Trev Buzzin Taxi is good too 3-take only 2 small carry-on luggage on plane (so you don't have to wait a long time on your luggage when you exit the plane). 4-take a long hot shower right before the plane trip and wear a lot of good deodorant (so you don't smell bad) 5-eat a good meal at the airport before getting on your flight (so you aren't hungry and in case the plane food isn't enough or good) 6-I have a small mp3 player that has all my favorite music as well as a noise cancellation headphones (these are great to minimize engine noise and crying baby noise) 7-I never drink alcohol or take any kind of drug while I'm on a flight (in order to stay alert and not do something stupid if drunk or in a stupor). 8-take a small light jacket in case it gets cold or it rains 9-wear my most comfortable clothes (baggy pants and large cotton shirts) 10-be on my best behavior (don't want to get in trouble on an airplane, especially now) 11-Carry all my valuables (money, passport, etc) in a anti-thief protected wallet and/or backpack with locks (Pacsafe makes excellent security products for travelers) 12-for Thailand, I save at least a couple hundred dollars from my previous trip so I don't have to change all my money at the airport in Bangkok (usually poor rates in the airport, except for the lower levels)

Flights and how much to spend is a personal choice. Personally I prefer a direct flight. That is even more important for relatively short holidays. Of the airlines that offer this, I think Thai airways are the best. They are not the cheapest, but frankly the difference is not much, and what better way to start the holiday than with a Thai smile! I used to use the A380, but I suspect that will not be on the menu for the time being. As regards a bus. For me, the saving isn't worth it. I just want to get on with my holiday with the least hassle door to door after a long flight.

Big tip here. If its a couple traveling together, make sure each persons duty free is bagged separately, do not put 400 cigs or 2 bottles of alcohol in the same bag, bag them separate. Ie: one bag for each persons allowance only. Do not combine them together ! If you go through immigration with 400 cigs, or two bottles in the same bag, the person carrying them are technically carrying over the allotted allowance and will be fined. Saying that the other persons allowance is in the bag will not wash with the authorities. And as we all know, Thai love technicalities !

Trevor …. really BAD advice telling people to search cheap tickets in the current climate …. you get what you pay for and with all the restrictions it has been an absolute nightmare for 1000’s of people trying negotiate refunds and cancellations. Better to book direct with the airlines who are authorised to fly into BKK under the restrictions. Obviously when things return to something like normal then yeh, people can scrape the barrel, but I would still advise against it as customer service with bucket shops is zero …. your upbeat style is great … but it’s not a true reflection of how it is at the moment as you talk like all is normal, but the aviation industry has changed beyond all recognition of what it was when you last flew to Thailand.

ALL great tips Trev 👍 I agree with dressing comfortably not for a fashion show. I wear comfortable but light Linen pants Black or white or kahaki. a long sleeve t-shirt and a long-sleeve button-up shirt. These come in handy IF visiting Temples! 1. Bring an EMPTY reusable water bottle. You can fill it AFTER security. I buy a large bottle of water and fill it up then drink the rest while waiting/ One of my bottles has a built-in filter that is safe for tap water in my home country and the layover but not Thailand. 2. Be nice to flight attendants. Please and thank you go a long way. and don't be a dumb drunk fool. 3. Tell the person behind you that you are just reclining back a few inches. 4. It is okay to ask to be seated somewhere else maybe away from screaming or kicking kids. But you have to return to your original seat for landing. 5. Chewing gum as you take off will ease the popping of your ears. 6, I only bring a carry-on/* Backpack. BUT IF you bring some luggage Take a picture of your luggage before it goes on the plane. This will make it easier to find again especially if there is a language barrier. * - double check the weight allowence of your carry-on! IE: Emirates is 7 kilos or 15 lbs.

Also coming from the U.S., which is a real ball buster. In normal times I found that a stopover on the way can really make a difference (if you have the time). Example, I have done trips in the past where I would stop in Hong Kong for 3 nights on both trips (too and from). Doing that gives you an opportunity to break up the flight time, and see a new place. It was really enjoyable and helps to alive the post return depression. It can add a few quid to the expense, but if you budget properly can really be well worth it. In the future I plan on stopping over in Tokyo. Of course with Covid (at the current time) I would not do a stopover as the chances for a problem enroute and the related complications would be much too risky, IMO. Then number 1 rule I always follow is to book directly with the airline, not a booking site. Can really make a huge difference if issues arise.

Book your flight based on arrival time, not departure time. Arriving at midnight or 3 in the morning means you have lost just about one day of your holiday. Always try to get an exit row seat for the added legroom. On longhaul flights, ask the flight attendant if there are any snacks available between meals and you might get cup of soup, pretzels, cookies, etc. Join any and every mileage program and learn which ones are interchangeable. Always nice to earn free upgrades. And, speaking of upgrades, it doesn't hurt to ask for an upgrade to business class or 1st class when you check in. Be dressed neatly and politely. As a retired US soldier, I would always ask if there were any upgrades for retired military and would usually get one.

When I booking a flight. I usually use skyscanner and see what the best prices for various airlines in regards to time to get there and also luggage allowance as airlines like BA and KLM usually offer cheap flights but no luggage allowance. BA have a generous 23kg hand luggage allowance though but usually Bangkok is a busy destination and putting 23kg in the luggage compartment can be an issue. Usually I fly with Oman, Qatar or Thai depending on price in general. Oman and Qatar do offer 30kg luggage. When at the airport. Avoid WH Smith's as they rip you off. Boots is reasonably cheaper when it comes to purchasing food on the go. Wetherspoons pubs are usually more expensive for drinks. At Heathrow T5 there is wet her spoons near gate A3 and A4 and one in the B gates terminal. Also a few other bits of good advice. Money. Insist when you go to the bank when you take out money. Do it at the counter so you can check the notes to ensure they are pristine as you do not want to be lumped with tatty and written on bank notes as we know many exchange places reject them. Also any Scottish travellers. Do not take Scottish notes as you get a lesser rate. Superrich green for Scottish notes is 43.35 where English notes are 45.35. Yes two baht difference for the same currency. Every baht helps lol. Also use the exchange booths on the lower level at Bangkok airport where the rail link is. Far better rates than commercial banks. If you use a bank debit card. Always inform your bank before travelling so you do not encounter issues where you will have your card blocked or retained by the machine. Also when using the card in a Thai machine. Always select the option of withdrawing money without conversion as your charged the Visa/Mastercard rate where the with conversion rate is your bank rate which is poor on top of their conversion fees and the ATM fees to boot. Also with debit cards. Monzo bank and Starling bank are probably best when using them for shopping purchases. Conversion rates are close to xe.com and funds are immediately withdrawn from your account and the app shows you what your charged in £££. Sim cards. Easy to get them when your in the baggage hall as it is not as crowded as in the arrivals area it is packed with Chinese tourists. Also the jet lag. Usually I get this getting back home. Usually when in Thailand I am fine except for one occasion when I got to my hotel from Airport, had a quick shower and decided to meet a friend and get a Tuk tuk in Bangkok. Let's say the heat made me sleepy and the tuk tuk driver was a nutter weaving in and out of traffic and I almost went left when the driver turned right 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I typically look for a couple of things when I'm booking a flight: #1) Type of aircraft...if I can find an Airbus A-380 for my dates and times I am willing to pay a bit extra for it...even economy is plush on those babies:) :)...and the noise levels and air circulation is superior to any Boeing I've flown on. #2) Duration of the flight (total)...sometimes on the travel sites there are some really cheap fares posted ... BUT...when you look at the itinerary you find it's gonna take you 38-41 hours to get to BKK...NO THANK YOU !!! #3) Arrival time...if you arrive in BKK at 3-4 A.M. ,even after customs and baggage claim, you'll be grabbing your bus or taxi around 5:30 A.M. If you're going to downtown BKK the cab will drop you at your hotel around 6:30 or so...and you usually CAN"T check in before 1-2 PM...so NOW you have 7 hours to kill and almost everything is CLOSED! If you are going to Patts, things make more sense...you prob get to your hotel closer to 9:30... so now maybe just grab some noodles and a beer and it should be about time to check in... ON THE OTHER HAND: IF YOU LAND AT 8:30 PM...by the time you get to any hotel it will be close to 10:30 or mid-night... so you just paid full price for a hotel room that you only used for 2-3 hours (that day)...I don't like that too much... Sooooo...I look for flights that land around 7 AM... OK...My 2 cents :)

I have found there are so many taxis there that some of the drivers have been there for hours and are falling asleep driving down to Pattaya and we all know what the roads are like! EVA Air direct London - BKK have always been one of the cheapest and never had any problems with them.

I've had many terrifying taxi rides from the airport. I won't do it any more. I have no problem paying for a nice limo with a professional driver who won't scare the shit out of me, and won't have me wondering if I'll spend my holiday in the hospital or morgue.

travel as light as possible, hand luggage only ideally, allow plenty of time especially between connecting flights, photocopy everything , passport, visa, tickets etc, plan your journey backwards,, start with what time you want to arrive at your destination. bring a back up ie credit card for emergency cash.

Pack an extra pair of underwear, socks, shorts, and T-shirt into your carry on bag. In case something gets spilled on you in flight or there's an unexpected delay or lost luggage, you still have something to change into. Also you will want to change into the shorts before the heat and humidity of SE Asia hits your crotch, don't wait until you arrive at your hotel. Select some clothes that are too large or small or almost worn out that you are ready to throw away to pack into your suitcase. Wear them during your trip knowing you can throw them away (or gift them) to create space for things you buy while travelling.

In the times we live in now think it’s better to book flights direct with the airline we had booked for November and cancelled the flights till next year and had no trouble with Qatar airlines. But friends who have booked with a travel agent the same flights are been asked to pay a extra £300 to change flights. So the £20 each they saved with the original flights has cost them in the long run never mind all the hassle

Great advice on long haul flights, traveling from USA is between 21 to 26 plus hours. I recommend premium seating, seating next to exist, or business class if it in your budget. I book flights with one layover, but sometimes you can save 800 to 1000 US dollars by taking two layovers (business class). A lot times the airlines will down size the aircraft if there's not full, had that happen a lot with Delta airlines (Great airlines for long haul flights). Also sign up for sky miles, you can get discounts flights and free flights when accumulate flights miles. Keep up the good work Trevor.

I go premium economy for the added comfort and extra leg room. I fly out of LAX about 20 hour trip. I like to fly out late at night (10pm - 2am) 14 hours to Taipei for a short layover. 4 hour flight to Bangkok landing between 10am - 11:30 am. I sleep, watch movies, listen to music but over all the trek just feels like a long night. I’m checked in by 4pm and having a drink by 4:15pm.

I usually use my Amex points to book business class on Eva Airways. They have a flight leaving my city around midnight. After dinner and a few drinks, I pass out and sleep in comfort until the brief interruption in Taipei. With basically a full night's sleep in the comfy seats, I'm ready to go when I arrive in BKK at 10:00 am. When I fly this schedule, there's very little jetlag. In recent years, on every trip, I've pre-booked a limo and VIP immigration service. It's not really very much money, and it gets you past immigration lines with no wait whatsoever.

I would love it if it were possible to book a nonstop flight from the U.S. into BKK, but no flights are currently available for that routing (I shed real tours when Thai Air ceased to fly their LAX / BKK route). One tip I have found that works for me (though others might find their own comforts differently) is to book flights so the last flight - the one that will land in Thailand - is as short as possible. These days, that means unless there is compelling reason(s) not to, I transit through Singapore, Taipei, or Hong Kong. I have, in my early travels to Thailand, transited through Tokyo and Seoul, but after a 14 hour or more flight from the U.S., to then be looking at an additional 6-7 hour flight took more mental girding than the start to a holiday should require. A last flight of 1.5 to 3 hours or so seems nothing at all. Also, the airlines in the mix (Singapore Air, EVA Air, Cathay Pacific) all have two or more departes a day from the U.S. west coast, so I even have an option with regard to what time of day I want / need to leave and arrive Thailand.

@@RebelCowboyzCo. 2 years ago, that was an easy question with a few choices, but C19 has changed that. Thai Airways and Eva Air use to have direct flights, but right now everything seems to have at least one stop. I just checked the Thai airways online reservation system and it is not showing any direct flights but it has only been A-day or 2 since the government announced Thailand opening up so maybe those flights will be added. Typically, from the time an airline decides to add a flight it takes about 45 days for that to become a ticketable trip. I would check their website often with your desired travel dates to see if they have restarted that flight. Meanwhile you can get there by going through an Asian hub like Narita Japan or Souel Korea... Hong-Kong is another typical connecting connecting city.

Great up-to-date films using my own headphones. Drink plenty of water and limit the alcohol. Dehydration is high when flying. Ton, my taxi driver friend stops at service to buy Chang. Order 5000 baht through Moneycorp online to pick up at Gatwick. Exchange is acceptable this way. Convenient; when I land I just want to get to Pattaya ASAP. Make sure you fully complete and sign the landing card. Have a working ball point pen in your bag for this. Happy flight.
