I'm not sure but at 4:20 on the left it looks like the old hump track with the hump cabin up on top. Spent quite a few lazy shifts up there back in the day. The paper train consists used to come through from the west tower in one of those air powered tubes. They had red lines drawn on them underlining where you had to split the consist as the drivers pushed the train over the hump from the arrivals yard. There was a sort of sweet spot at the top of the hump where you pulled the pin and as the train crested the top at very low speed the wagons would come apart and gravity would do the rest. Also love the footage of arriving into Spencer Street. Incredible how now Southern Cross is now surrounded on all sides by massive buildings and Collins Street now goes all the way through.

Yes, the old hump shunting. It was dreadfully boring being rostered on the trimmer pilot.

Can tell it's a Comeng due to the noisy equipment electrics, give me the buzz and hum of a Harris or Tait set any day. Liked seeing all the Hitachi sets, now consigned to history and too the gradual demise of the Comeng sets. I haven't been on that line since the days the Taits ran on it, no doubt most of the little industries and sidings long gone replaced with housing developments. Had a lot of cab rides sitting in the high guards seat on the Taits in the 1970's, great memories. Good one Ted.

Cheers Dave. Yes, the Comeng compressor was too evident in the audio.I wound the low frequencies back heaps so it wasnt so dominating in the sound track

Brings back memories of working in Williamstown in the ‘80s. If I remember correctly there was a Williamstown pier station for the dockyard.

I extra love the footage because of South Kensington and North Williamstown railway stations (in 2009, the signal box at South Kensington was demolished and in 2021 the Ferguson Street level crossing at North Williamstown was removed)

I didnt realise Sth Ken box had actually been demolished. I clearly recall the time when it became solid state interlocking (or similar). It became slow and cumbersome!

Next to nothing changed in the rail scene in Melbourne during the 90's and early 2000's but plenty has happened in the past 15 years or so.

good old days before privatisation

We have always been told how privatisation of things is for the better. I'm yet to see any evidence that thats been the case with anything. Just look at the complete and utter mess our electricity networks are in atm!

@@tedbear4243 only good thing privatisation gave us was all the first gen diesels being kept in service

Hi there. That track is a cover by Madis of a Jan Hammer track called Crocketts Theme, the original version being from Miami Vice. Madis has done some great covers.
