I'm a Jason from Oregon. I knap obsidian because it's available and when it cooperates, it's beautiful. Obsidian is not dragon glass. It's the devil's mineraloid! Forged in the bowels of hell! But I digress lol. Thanks for all your useful instruction! You are one of the real legends of the stone chipping universe!

@myBanjohasemgz3 жыл бұрын
It is 1.75" aluminum rod. I made it, I just haven't got around to making any for sale just yet, but I will soon. I have the material, just need to do it

Nízhóní gó Báásístóggíí íłtá íínlá (you made that arrowhead beautifully thin) I really admire your work and I yelled NOOO when it snapped but it happens and the way I believe is it comes out its it's own way and we help it.
@myBanjohasemgz3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that was 100% my fault, I should have worked the ends earlier in the process. I made it too weak to be hitting on the ends, especially on such brittle material.

Man you are just fluid..your ability is killer bro! I live in Tx collecting rocks as I go at work..(land surveying) and been trying to Knapp for a year now with very little time to do more than 15 -30 mins worth of work ..lots of video time tho.. Yours and others are helping… do you live in Tx?

Amazing work and could you go into detail on how you do indirect. I’m struggling with indirect
@myBanjohasemgz3 жыл бұрын
I will try to do a video soon. Although, I'm setting up the same basic platforms as normal. Takes a bit of time to figure out the right angles of attack though
@markgreen39863 жыл бұрын
Hey Jason! I’m curious about your aluminum billets. I’ve always thought aluminum wasn’t good for knapping. Thanks
@myBanjohasemgz3 жыл бұрын
It works for me. You just have to throw away the copper habits.lol
@markgreen39863 жыл бұрын
It sure does work for you!! Is it a specific alloy? Or straight up round stock?
@myBanjohasemgz3 жыл бұрын
@@markgreen3986 it's 6061 alloy

I really like that camera angle Jason. Would like to see more like it as well as some of your indirect percussion from the same angle. Thanks for putting this video up.
@myBanjohasemgz3 жыл бұрын
When I get a chance I will certainly try to do an indirect video from this angle
@otisnapper41073 жыл бұрын
One of my first thoughts is, I would probably break that.

Lol I dunno why, bit this peanut butter always seems to end up in two pieces for me. It's really brittle stuff

Great video Jason, really like the camera angle on this one it shows a up close eye view of what the knapper sees and what is really happening with the angle of the preform and the strike. Shame the original preform broke but we all know that happens at times. Like the material as well and great job as usual.-John Siderio
@myBanjohasemgz3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was just testing out the camera holder. It does jar a bit when I strike, but I think it gives the best view for knapping. I stole the idea from Marty rueter lol
@jackservold42993 жыл бұрын
Jason, is that bopper lead loaded?
@myBanjohasemgz3 жыл бұрын
No sir, it's just solid aluminum rod
@jackservold42993 жыл бұрын
@@myBanjohasemgz thanks , I just worked a Perdenales cobble down following how you set platforms and directions of strike's looks good ready for some indirect. I've watched lot of other guys videos you have best camera angles thanks again. I make jewelry out of my knapping. Now maybe some knives.

Setting platforms correctly and hitting them , I'm like lightening ,,, NEVER hit same place twice?
@myBanjohasemgz3 жыл бұрын
Lol practice practice practice. One thing that might help, is find a way to stabilize your swinging arm and only swing with the elbow. Don't let your upper arm have any movement. Good luck!
