I've been using one of these for about 6 months, it is my go to bopper , nothing makes those overshoot flakes like your babies ed, and so easy to make

When you're trimming you really choke up on that thing. Other times when you're taking a flake your grip seems to vary just a little bit. When watching a pro like you it seems like it's all muscle memory, but if someone were trying your lightweight bopper for the first time, is there some starter grip advice you might give them?

Just keep trying and start with the smaller ones first. Thanks for watching!

I'm confused on bopper sizes. Is the diameter of the copper more important than the weight, or is it a combination of the two? For example, is a large diameter copper head without weight more effective than a smaller diameter with weight added? I'm assuming that your boppers are without added weight since you call them lightweight.

Hopefully you'll get a notice that someone has come and. I've been trying to find out what I might do to pressure flake. I don't seem to have the strength in my hands and wrist to use to do it. Ideas?

Watch some videos on indirect percussion flaking. This method can give you more energy to remove a large flake.

What causes step fracturing?
@EDBO23
@EDBO23 3 жыл бұрын
As the flake is forming the crack is advancing. When the crack stops as it runs out of energy the flake can still have a bending stress which can snap the flake somewhere along it's length. That leaves a crack in the rock with a piece of flake above it.

@@EDBO23 ...so fracturing is caused by insufficient impact energy....?

The step fracture is caused when a partially formed flake has a bending stress that snaps the flake somewhere along it's length after the crack propagation stops. The entire process cannot be explained in a couple of sentences. There are so many factors involved in the problem. Look up fracture mechanics in Wikipedia for further explanation.
