Flint knapping, small overshots reduction, direct percussion ⤵️

This little rock had cast iron cortex.
I really enjoyed working it and made a few overshot type flakes that worked out good. In the end I hit too high up, edge was to high, and sheered off the tip with one of them perverse fractures.

Well that was a great effort… I still learned some good techniques…… it’s good to see that the same things happen to the best knappers like yourself. I’m glad you still posted this video. It was a good lesson for me. Thank you… I’ll be looking for your next video.

It's amazing how far you can go with direct percussion. I see you taking big flakes on thin workpieces. I'm too scared to because when I miss, it's usually hitting too high on the platform which takes a big bite or snaps it.

Yeah, i know what you mean. I miss a lot and I used to get scared like that sometimes, and the fears would be realized a lot because my muscles would be tensed up. I find myself leaning forward when stressed like that which messes up all the mechanics of the swing even more.

Looks like the cortex is hiding another layer of cortex.

It sure was protective of the chert under it.
