Hey Silas, thanks a million for making this film (as well as others). The history and culture that goes along with the projectile points is something I believe all flintknappers should give consideration and you do an exceptional job! Thanks again.

I’m glad you enjoyed this film and my other videos! I agree, a projectile point isn’t just an object produced only by Flintknapping, it’s also produced by the culture it came from in terms of how it functioned in their lives. You’re welcome and thanks again for the kind words

Skilled doesn't even make a dent in the depth of knowledge being presented. But yeah it shows he is definitely skilled😀

Another great example, thank you ! A question if you don't mind. When you are using your billet for direct percussion, you take a few hits before you actually take your flake. Are you kinda sneaking up on the platform?
@pathwaysofthepast4 жыл бұрын
Nope, no “sneaking up”. Just building confidence that I’m gonna hit it and not mess up
@marycomeau93644 жыл бұрын
Was that flute on purpose? I didn't catch the strike that caused it.
@pathwaysofthepast4 жыл бұрын
I think the “flute” is just a pressure flake. Just from thinning the base
@paleotrekker4024 жыл бұрын
Are we sure it was pressure flaking? Indirect percussion might have been the more preferred method for much of the contouring.
@pathwaysofthepast4 жыл бұрын
Nope not really. So far I haven’t seen an experimental studies to look at flakes produced by pressure flaking vs indirect then comparing this data to archaeological assemblages

@@pathwaysofthepast Would there be any real way to tell the difference? Could there be individual preference of one method over the other that we can't tell from the pieces left behind?
@pathwaysofthepast4 жыл бұрын
It might be possible to tell in some cases, but they can produce such similar flakes (depended on the types of tools used) that it may be impossible
