Mahi’s song is inspired by inequalities of race, gender, economic status. Her own metaphor “flip flops on the palm trees” represents the unfair advantage the privileged enjoy. The top of the palm trees is their playing ground. And of course she is singing from the perspective of someone from the ground below.
