I really like the book flipping ones. They're so chill. The book tapping and page flipping sounds are tingly. I watch ASMR to hang out with the artist, to experience their vibes and their personality. Variety is nice and sometimes I love the higher effort videos. But really, the most important thing is that you are 'present'.

It's so fun to see younger folks discovering these old gamebooks, inheriting them from their parents or grandparents, and hearing their impressions of them. I have so many thoughts and feelings tied to the 2nd Edition books-layers of nostalgia and happy memories of gaming, though I did run a 2nd Edition game in the Birthright campaign back in 2016-2018. It's a different experience than 5th Edition, especially since it predated 3rd Edition/3.5's unified mechanics theory; it's a collection of unrelated, independent subsystems that accumulated in Dragon Magazine and people's homebrew campaigns over the years. I enjoy DMing 5th Edition-our 5e Greyhawk campaign has been running for many years now-but I still use a few rules from 2nd Edition in my games (monster rarity, frequency of encounter by climate/environment, and morale). The Monstrous Compendium/Monstrous Manual for 2nd Edition was also great because of its details on social organization, diet, numbers, treasure types, and so on (and the Tony di Terlizzi illustrations in the MM!). All of which is to say, thanks for the video. I hope you get some use or inspiration out of your Dad's old gamebooks!

This sort of thing is real ASMR, not that false whispering stuff and clicking. That kind of stuff actually makes me less relaxed. This is just enjoyable, no lewd degen junk, no cheap tricks, just the kind of stuff I enjoyed watching when I got into the community. It does help that this interests me anyway, So I can geek out too lol

Thanks for doing this! Definitely brought back a lot of memories from our group’s heyday in 1994-1996. Our world was insanely overpowered with magic and we created our own “dice of many things” because we didn’t think the deck was devious enough lol

You are phenomenal. I feel like it's been so long since I've gotten to see a really down to earth, natural feeling ASMR video by somebody just being themselves and talking about their interests, and this is just bullseye. It's the kind of video that got me into this community years ago. The produced stuff is pretty cool, but I miss this. Seriously, really awesome.

I couldnt agree more. Remember when they were just called whisper videos? It's sad, but a lot of old videos have been lost. I prefer this more natural, down to earth ASMR like attimoth.

I played soooo much 2nd ed! Thankfully I always played wizard so I never had to worry about dealing with THAC0 😁 30:35 The experience is how much it costs to craft. Wizards lose experience when crafting magical items (on top of being the class that requires the most XP to level.) Edit: I'm guessing tin was much harder to get in the dark ages leading to bronze being more rare.

As someone who first learned 5e who then decided to play the original Baldur’s Gate (fantastic game by the way, still holds up, Neera best mage), to me, THAC0 is like an arcane glyph that just means ‘danger: headaches’. So thankful that it got streamlined.

@@EvanVanKampen-by6gv Everything has an armor class (AC), you want this to be LOW. THAC0 means "To Hit Armor Class Zero". So if something has a "0" AC (VERY good), you have to roll above your THACO. If they have an AC of say, 6, you have to roll above your THAC0 minus six. Say your THACO is 18, you would have to roll above a 12 to hit something with an AC of 6. TL;DR: On 1d20, roll higher than THAC0 - AC to hit something.

Only familiar with 5th edition stuff, thanks to mostly Critical Role. Always been interested in DnD, but I've never known anyone else who was. But I always found it fun to make characters, and plan what I would do with level ups, and how I would theme/play them. Always like looking at stat blocks, and the like. That carries over to multiple hobbies though. So happy when video games give me a bestiary, and item lists. Use to collect super hero trading card, back the olden days, as well. They would always have stats like strength, and speed, fighting skill, etc. Just give me all the information! :D

Ok first of all about awkwardness. Obviously everyone’s triggers are unique but I do know many folks will prefer someone who is a bit awkward. I prefer new channels strictly for this reason. Not that you are awkward in any bad sense you are really good at talking which is something I could never do. But someone who maybe new to things is great coz there are more unexpected pauses and also I find when someone is like thinking about what to say, in those moments I can trigger the most. They may make certain sounds or speak even softer or slower or if they doing things with their hands they may accidentally touch some paper or the table just right. I dunno. Maybe it’s the wrong word but there’s like a musically to asmr. It should be dynamic. This is not to Disparage any ASMR artist but the Gibi popular type of channels while very cleanly edited with top notch mics and maybe more of a slick demonstration really doesn’t do anything for me. I don’t really listen to what people are even saying. Mostly I want to it to be like an ASMR encounter in the wild. Just casual soft spoken speaking from voices that just make the brain chemicals go bonkers while I zone out feeling bliss and relaxation.
