I’d make a fiberglass slurry/peanut butter (powder mix & resin). You can use talc or even baby powder for all those undercuts and deep crevices. That fiberglass resin is actually more money & the worst quality you can get. Better quality resin is actually thinner and cheaper. It will wet out so much better and quicker. I would recommend spraying the pva also. Dilute it with water. Make a 1:1 ratio, out it in a spray bottle, & spray it. Good video.
@JOEGGGJOE5 жыл бұрын
Yes. Make a peanut butter consistency slurry. Mix talc, baby powder, micro blooms, cabosil, or milled fibers, etc into the resin first. Then put hardner in it & mix it all together. Apply this first in any deep crevice. Then apply resin and fiberglass over the slurry. This will avoid an major bubbles and air pockets.

@@JOEGGGJOE will corn starch work as talc??
@taylarogers3132 жыл бұрын
So you're saying just powder and the resin, let dry then cover with the fiberglass sheets??? I've never made one, I've only made a plaster mother mold
@JOEGGGJOE2 жыл бұрын
@@taylarogers313 I’ll used baby powder w/corn starch in the past. Just make sure you mix it really good. I have had some issues with that though. I’d put a lite coat and add more after dried/cured to make sure it’s good.
@JOEGGGJOE2 жыл бұрын
@@taylarogers313 no put the slurry on first then fiberglass rite over it. The point is to fill any gaps & voids that you might get that the fiberglass can’t get into. If you just fiberglass over gaps & voids, you will have air pockets or resin Rich filled areas that are week.

@chrishunter12264 жыл бұрын
Hi Johnathan! I had two custom busts designed. One of John Rockefeller and one of Cornelius Vanderbilt. They are from my favorite pictures of each and I'm going to recast them in a material, place on a rectangular art gallery bust stand in our new office building. Not sure what material would be the best choice - Plaster of Paris, then waxed? White Portland Cement? Do you have any suggestions? These will be lit up and prefer light color. I wish I could post a picture of the prototypes for you to see man, I think you would like it.
@victoria6533 жыл бұрын
@@chrishunter1226 Hey, plastic works good but does not have the durability of concrete. Although concrete is a lot heavier. Plaster is more expensive. I would probably do concrete if weight is not an issues.

@@victoria653 thanks buddy :) Still haven't "busted" them out (lol terrible joke). Seriously though, the fiberglass is on them so good I cannot seem to get it off so they were set aside until I could hook them up with a comealong and pull them off.... Just curious what you put in the fiberglass resin? You mentioned a hardener? Also is it necessary or will the fiberglass resin harden on its own?
@victoria6533 жыл бұрын
The hardener makes the fiberglass cure. If you do not put the hardener in, the fiberglass will never cure. It takes anywhere from 20 minutes up to 4 hours for the fiberglass to harden, depending on the temperature.

@victoria6534 жыл бұрын
@@juliepagitt9342 Hmmmm i can kinda guess with experience on how much latex will be needed for a mold but it hard to say. One thing to know is that, you do not want to go more than a day between coats because if the latex drys too much, new latex will not stick to it properly and you rubber will start to feel and fall apart. I have been finding with thin coats i can do about 10-15 coats a day for a total of about 30-40 coats. I would say for a 1 foot tall by 1 foot tall statue. Probably around a half gallon.

(PVA is a natural substance like latex?) 3- And can you please tell me how long it takes for the PVA to dry before we start the mother mold? 4- And can you please tell me how long it takes for the fiberglass mother mold dry? 5- After making the latex and mother mold, before starting casting, do you use PVA inside the latex mold so that the statue can be easily separated from the latex mold? Or do you use another substance at that stage? thank you very much for your help. good luck :)

after latex is totally cured, then use pva, not sure if its natural. Latex can take 3-7 days after last coat to fully cure... pva dries fast, couple hours of less, i would recommend 2 or 3 coats. pva only on outside, not inside. Inside, use mold releave, costrol oil and 99% rubber alcohol
