In Germany everybody drives up to Denmark for this style of slope soaring but we build our wings way more durable. They're basically epp wings wrapped in tape so often they will never break and then covered in the neatest designs to do that combat stuff. Thermal slope soaring in the mountains is another very great thing you should check out, but these things are bigger.

I lived in Long Beach Calif, and it was slope soaring that got me interested in RC. Back in about 1979, the favorite slope soaring machine (and the most acrobatic) was the simple foam airplane that you threw, and it would do a loop, and bop you in the back of the head, and typically break... lol they just cut out the spots for all the RC gear, and they were ready to go.... and boy they were fast.... Thankfully I left Calif in 1982, just after skydiving at 16 yrs old, moving to WI, and then spending 16 years in the Army.... now I'm back into RC again at 49 yrs old, so it's never to late to play LOL.

Glad to see Josh and Josh back together! That's how I remember when I first got back into RC flying after a 30-year hiatus, and now have my grandkids into the fun. We would watch "Josh & Josh" and then run to the Dollar Tree to get foam. Thanks guys, and God bless!! Keep up the great work!

This takes me back to the 80's when I had many years of slope soaring with the Bromley Soaring Club in SE London UK. We used to fly off the South Downs. Inbuilt and flew many balsa & ply aircraft - both purchased designs and own designs. Foam wings were just coming in then but foam board was unheard of as were electric motors. Looking forward to getting the courage to go back into the hobby and built by first foam board plane. Until then I shall carry on with my Mavic Pro :).

Great to see 2xJosh but I found you guys only this year so still going through old material and Josh was never gone for me! I'd love to see more slope soaring. You won't need an awesome slope like that, even a sand dune would do. Perhaps a dedicated small soarer might be a future challenge? I sloped a few wings but prefer something with a tail (Current is a glass fibre fuse, balsa wing V-tail at 800mm)

JOSH AND JOSH: BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN! WOOHOO! What a fantastic video! I loved watching you guys slope soaring! Its so peaceful and its one of those RC experiences that has to be shared. Watching that giant ole cargo plane slope soaring was a hoot! Its great that you shared it with us! Thank you! I really want to get my ohana (Family in Hawaiian) into slope soaring, but I have a lot of ohana that are scared of heights! lol Someday maybe. Anyways, thank you again for posting this fantastic vid, guys!

I learned to fly doing slope soaring and still do as much as can do (or as the weather allow us). basically the nearest the ridge the most performance (ie speed) you get but also bumpier.. and away from the ridge is the cleanest... speed is pick by doing sideways runs (piloning) .. you can go for hours if the wind holds.. i have done flights of 2 hours and a half non-stop where ultimatelly you are the endurance limit (can get pretty chilly standing up in that wind that long)

@Stevo719 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but that looks like the spot near the entrance to the Muir Beech Overlook. If it is, you could have gone another hundred yards or so north and you would have been a small clearing that most people (in my experience anyway) fly from. It gives you a little more room for landing and puts a little more distance between you and Hwy1. Either way, awesome video!
