This was our first run at the Final-Central Europe in Aachen. In our second run we also could reach our personal high score of 525 points (the big water from the other team was missing).

It's been 3 years and this is still a legendary robot. Thanks a lot for inspiring me and my team, I remember back in the days we saw this video soo many times trying to fully grasp the strategy behind this robot. Thanks, really, in the next year we won the Brazil's Championship and were classified to Houston. What a ride

Very good work, what I liked most about your robot is that he is simple but effective, u didn’t built giant structures, sometimes it was just a single piece that made 20 points, beside this, the programming is awesome, he isn’t just accurate but he is fast, very impressive

Goethe RobotX Schaut euch mal die erste Mission an. Mit Trichter meinen wir, dass die große Wassermenge dann sicher im Zielgebiet landet. Kann ja ohne irgendeine Hilfe doch ziemlich oft daneben landen... (Ist aber tatsächlich eher eine Schräge, als ein wirklicher Trichter)

This robot is a thing of beauty. We have spent two years trying to figure out how to get smooth acceleration and deceleration. How did you do it? Thank you!

FLL Team Water Works Thanks! Our acceleration is actually very simple. Every loop cycle the speed gets a bit higher until the needed speed is reached. For deceleration we look at the distance, the robot still has to drive. When its time to slow down, the we set the speed proportional to the distance. When the robot has finished the movement, the speed is 0...

Thanks! We have tried a similar approach but there seems to be a small pause in between each "step" in the acceleration that creates problems. Could you share which motor control blocks are you using to control the robot while you are accelerating and decelerating? Are you using the "unregulated" motor control blocks?

FLL Team Water Works Are you using several loops parallel? We also use unregulated motor blocks, but your problem seems to be a problem of performance. Maybe you can just count the loop cycles and devide it with the needed time after the movement. This value should at least over 100. A performance-killer are for example parallel loops...

Thanks again! It turns out the problem was using movement blocks that had a distance instead of just turning the motors on and and watching the distance with a motor sensor before going on to the next movement. Once we changed that we can now get smooth acceleration and also smoother changes between different movements. Now we need to see if we can make it as accurate as the old way...

The qualifikation system is a bit difficult. The best team from a country gets a ticket for the World Festival (Germany gets two tickets), but there are also 4 tickets for the OEC in Debrecen (Hungary) and also 4 for the EOI in Tallinn (Estland). Now first of all the champion can decide between these competitions and depending on the country and the ranking of the team you can go to different competitions. We won the overall second place and only the Goethe RobotX were better from Germany, so we had the oportunity for all of these competitions. I know, that Goethe RobotX and mindfactory will be at the World Festival...

We had the oportunity also for the World Festival and the OEC (Open Europeen Championship) in Debrecen/Hungary, but decided this year for the EOI, which means Estonian Open International... Also because OEC and World Festival collided with other events

Thanks! You are right, we calculate the deviated angle and afterwards we can correct it during the next movement using the gyro sensor

@@charlesalmeida264 For the calculation we only use the color sensors and the rotation sensors, but while crossing the line and for correcting the deviated angle afterwards we also use the gyro sensor. The calculation is difficult to explain. Maybe you can give us a email adress, so we could send you a picture... Anyway a short explanation: The robot drives straight until one of the sensors detects the black line. Then the rotation sensors measure the distance until the second sensor also detects the line. Because you also know the distance between your color sensors you are now able to get the deviated angle by using tangens

Wow! Very efficient run! Would you mind sharing what kind of MyBlocks did you use in the program other than distance and acceleration? Also could you, please, recommend any good source for acceleration/deceleration my block tutorial? Everything I saw only covers acceleration. I wonder how others do such an accurate deceleration. Thanks in advance!

Cam Sweetgrass We use in the end six my blocks to navigate. For example one to drive straight with the gyro sensor. This includes acceleration, deceleration, different ending conditions (distance, time, line) and some other features. We also use my blocks to align at lines, follow lines, turn with one or two wheels, drive arcs and one to drive straight and arcs with the rotation sensors. All these blocks also have the features as described. We didn't saw any tutorial for the programming, but maybe you'll unterstand how deceleration can work: The problem is, that you need a certain distance to decelerate and that the speed has to be always the same at the end of the movement. If less distance is left the robot has to drive slower, so the speed has to be proportional to the distance the robot still has to drive... Was it helpful?

Thanks! You are right for the international rules, but unfortunately in central europe we don't get the 10 points for three big waters, because one of them isn't touching the mat...

There are 2 big water touching the mat in the target. The water stacked for the bonus is not touching the mat. That is why the score here is 535 not 545 and, to my knowledge, that should be the same in every region since it is clearly stated in the rules and has not been changed by any update. I can confirm we ruled that way in my region (North Carolina, USA)

Wieviele My Blocks benutzt ihr und was machen sie?

Insgesamt benutzen wir 18 My-Blocks, aber die meisten sind nicht direkt zum Fahren, sondern nur Untermethoden. Unsere 6 Move-Blöcke benutzen wir um geradeaus mit Gyrosensor zu fahren, für Bögen mit Gyro, Drehungen auf einem oder zwei Rädern, um uns an Linien auszurichten, Linien zu folgen und um geradeaus oder Bögen mit den Rotationssensoren zu machen. Die letzten beiden verwenden wir diese Saison aber gar nicht. Alle Blöcke haben natürlich noch ein paar andere Funktionen, wie zum Beispiel sanftes Beschleunigen und Abbremsen...

Tommi Es gibt den Punkt übersichtlich und für jeden verständlich oder so ähnlich. Dafür können Untermethoden ganz nützlich sein, aber da muss man natürlich aufs Programm schauen, in welchem Umfang das sinnvoll ist. Prinzipiell aber auf jeden Fall keine schlechte Sache

We reached the finals and got one of the highest scores, but unfortunately the first blue pipe line went wrong in the first final, so the rest of the mission also failed and Caroaces and Goethe RobotX got more points...

Mindstorms Man - SWARM We built a robot with 3 light sensors for our regional competition, but then decided to drive over the ramp, so we had to remove the sensor and rebuilt the robot

Julius Müller War nicht ganz wenig Aufwand... Wir haben zuerst Lego Digital-Designer Modelle für alle Positionen erstellt und die dann jeweils einzeln mit Bluerender zu Bildern gerendert. Im Video laufen die Bilder wie ein Stop-motion Video einfach hintereinander... Kann allerdings echt nervig werden das Modell perfekt zu drehen und 80 Mal die genaue Anzahl an Steinen zu löschen
