You.are probably getting a back feed thru a transformer or whatever. It happens a lot on stop start buttons etc. a lot of times your meter will show a false 208,240, or 480. That float is actually open. Usually on house current if a phase opens your meter will show 120 volts at an outlet but plug something in and it won’t work.

Came across a failed EZ-Trap earlier this year. Since it had a float switch on the Derain pan I just cut the EZ Trap wires. It may have been corrosion that doomed this one. Customer likes to pour bleach in the clear P traps.

Since most of the float switches of this type are sealed reed switches, which is a magnetic contact in a glass tube, rough handling can crack the tube or a short can melt the contact off. It's the same switch used in many burglar alarm contacts. They are durable but can be broken.

when used to make/break a contactor coil, it's possible vibration or other making it rapid cycle, they are limited in cycle count, but that also can cause them to arc flash internally, especially with the coils large back EMF pulse. maybe look for lose wires/bad thermostat or other issue causing rapid cycling, maybe even the clogged drain and building pressure causing water level surging ( on/off/on/off, repeat infinity)

So if the SS2 failed, there WAS water in it. The SS2 is normally closed and only opens when water raises the float. In order for it to have failed, water opened the switch and it never went back to the closed position. Replacing the failed switch is only half the problem.

I cleared the drain, and nothing was in it, but maintenance man had cleared it before me

We were taught to grab the 2 black wires and ohm the float switch out. Check if it has continuity when it’s tripped/ when not tripped.

This has tge be the worst informative video. Didn't understand what wires where tested nor did u show how to put on the new float. For a hvac tech or experienced dyi yes but for a normal person trying to get info this is not a good descriptive video
