The clear water streams of the Texas Hill Country are ideal for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and floating. Join me as I float down a popular stretch of the Guadalupe River in Gruene.

I've been vacationing in New Braunfels since '75, gave me some of my most fondest childhood memories. And I passed that on to my son.

Born and raised in Texas going Tubing on the Guadalupe River is & has been the most fun thing's I have done ! In my late 50's now I still remb. me and my friends yearly 4th of July tubing adventures . Haven't rode it in decades and I hope I get the chance to do it again before I depart the Earth . It was crowded back in the 80's but not even close to what it is now . That smaller feel will be missed but wont matter once I'm in the water navigating Waco Falls !!!

While in Gruene, did you happen to eat at the Gristmill Restaurant? You can reach it by walking next to Gruene Hall (the oldest dancehall in Texas, a RTHL) and under the Gruene water tower. It's built in the ruins of a burned grist mill. You can get seating indoors or outside overlooking the river. We usually opt for overlooking the river. It is pricey (we don't go very often) but I recall the food being pretty great. Love the atmosphere as well.

"Watch your butt!" seems like sage advice. Did you ever make it to Joe Cotton's (BBQ) in Robstown before it became a casualty of fire?

When we were there in 2006, we opted to be taken upstream and float back to Rockin R. Actually we rented kayaks rather than tubes. Looks like you went went downstream from Rockin R and got picked up and brought back as your footage of the river looks very different from what we saw. I'm guessing you didn't go as far as the historic Faust Street Bridge as it looks like there's an impassable dam before you get there. Did you see the point where the Comal flows in to the Guadalupe?

Started at main Rockin River Rides. I think we stopped just before the Comal.

If you like to float, I highly recommend the comal in new Braunfels. It's the best!

The Comal is nice. At about 2.5 miles long, it is the shortest river in Texas. I've stayed at a resort on the Comal called The Other Place. Great place to stay. It is surrounded on three sides by the Comal. Guests of The Other Place can borrow a tube for free and float from one side of the resort to the other.

Rattlesnakes in the river? I doubt it. The alligators would eat them all up! 😉

I tried accessing those rivers with my own tubes, but you are completely locked out. No parking along the street was offered anywhere and you are pretty much forced to pay for a natural river.
