Morning Rich and Fran, I’m a land lubber watching your stuff for a while. I have never thought once about sending anything, I’m not a Facebook, or internet person. However, I’ve just watched this and I think you will both appreciate it. Given, you are both lock workers and Fran appreciates the workings of locks and gears and engines. Anyway, I’ll stop the boredom. Search- Lock 83:The tailgates canal and river trust. If it bores you just discard 😀

Very good on the trash pick up. There is one vlog I have watched 10 seasons of and I have never seen him pick up one piece. Please needle your fellow boater vlog folks into doing more.... they and you are setting the example others will follow, and you two are very good examples indeed.

My heart goes out to you both. But THANK you 🌟🌟👏👏There are many of us who feel and do the same. The culprits show the reality of the human heart. One of the Biblical truths ‘ The heart is desperately wicked’. The human heart is not intrinsically good! You only need to look round Wigan to see that !😕. But as the little ditty says ‘ every little helps’ so keep the sun shining where you both are and feel good about what you have achieved in spite of the sheer disrespect to our environment of others. There’s a great generation coming up behind us that will keep up the fight. ‘ Keep Britain Tidy!’ Joan

Hello Fran and Rich. Another great video. It's Dave here. The guy that has offered to make the Tiller handy for the new boat. I hope you still want it. It is free you know. Loop forward to seeing the update on the new boat. Fran. You are an angel picking up other people's rubbish. I used to do that every day of the three years we were live aboards. I nearly gagged when you said about the huge heap of human s*it. With the thought of you having to clean Archie up, after him having stepped in it. Words fail me !!! I still do litter picking here in our village of belchamp at Paul. I really feel your anger. Anyway both. I guess you are far too young to get the jab. We are old enough. And getting ours Saturday. Stay Safe. Let me know about the tiller handle please. Love Dave and Diane ❤️

Hi guys. I totally understand how you feel about rubbish, I too get disheartened with the amount of litter left by certain types of society, but every now and then I meet someone who restores my faith in humanity, an example of this is when I saw a guy a few weeks back litter picking, I went up to him and spoke and personally thanked him for doing such a charitable thing. It got me thinking why don't I take a little bit of time out of my week and do the same , no matter how small my efforts, every little helps...Leave nothing but footprints take nothing but photos is one of my favourite sayings. Keep on floating Fran and Rich . Loved the Scarlet Elf cap, that's a new one on me. 👍

What is this life if full of care, There is no time to stand and stare. Hi Fran, we feel your grief at the rubbish and human detritus that is dumped. We don’t have a boat, but a motorhome, and the lanes and secluded areas of our country is exactly the same. Farm fields are also dumping grounds, it is disgusting and so very sad, that people do not seem to care any longer. They just seem to think “ it’s not my problem, someone else will clear it up”. What they don’t grasp is that their irresponsibility is gradually spoiling it for everyone else, with beauty spots being closed off, overnight stopping being disallowed, etc, etc, all because of their lack of care and consideration for others.

Hi Rich and Fran! In Queensland Australia we are more free mostly to travel in Oz, almost feels like normal, Im look forward to UK having more freedom soon. We discovered "Expawers" 2 years ago, Nick and Sarah have two little dogs and travel around Europe in their van. Sarah is the best cook always inventing new things, they are vegan. Nick is very good at photography and some amazing views of trips they have done, especially their trip to Norway last year. God bless you both!

Hi Both. Great to catch up with you again, really enjoyed being 'with' you. Re: the health care discussion, here in France we have a green credit card sized card called a 'Carte Vitale', which gives ready access to excellent health care anywhere in the country. Next time you are looking for a channel to watch, if van-life should interest you at all, Christine and I love watching 'the expawers', a really entertaining British couple who are based in Andalucia and spend most of their time touring Europe with their two dogs, but of course are trapped at home at present because of covid. Looking forward to seeing your new boat. Best of luck.

Here in the states with winter we settle in and with the added Covid things have become sort of mundane . I have 16 years on you Rich but luckily, I have family to do shopping for me. Last Friday I got my first vaccine shot. After my second, I think life will start to go back to normal . I plan to get out more. My getting out doesn't scare me, it scares the younger members of the house . They're afraid I'll bring something back . I figure if I have been vaccinated , I can't bring anything back. What a crazy world we live in now. As for the things to do, I still want to build a boat or a tiny home so don't give up the ideas of van life or canal boats. May spring bring us all some warm sun and a new start back to normal life. All the best , God Bless , Hal

I live in Adelaide, but my sister lives in Melbourne. They had a 16 week lockdown. Not sure what level it would be as per UK, but only allowed out for essential shopping, caring roles, pharmacy, no visitors and exercise within a 5km radius (once per day). She said that when lockdown finished they literally didn’t know how to get social life happening again. I well understand how you feel, it’s very difficult and not great for mental health etc., no matter the circumstances. I’m glad to see you moving, hopefully, with spring on the way, life offers some more freedom in the near future :)

Hi Rich and Fran! You made an interesting point with Covid complacency and your clever mind game cure by naming countries. One thing that I do to keep my brain exercised is to play a game of Scrabble (free on line) against the computer. You mentioned that you watch some other narrowboat vlogs, well I have a suggestion: The Mindful Narrowboat vlog on YT. It shares that same sort of intellectual curiosity about nature as you have. With you on the litter. Our village did a massive litter pick, several truck loads. A week later we picked two carrier bags of new cans and bottles on 2 mile stretch of country lane. Lost in Europe the recent episodes are insane Have a look at “The Narrowboat that James built” lets see how your new boat compares. Also watch “Weir on the move” but my favourite is “Cruising Alba” Can recommend touring Europe in a motorhome but the Western Isles should be next for us. Glad to see you have managed a short move for essentials, a change of mooring location will refresh both your minds and an opportunity to find fresh new walks to do. I have come to the conclusion that a person can only do so much with regards the litter problem in the UK... sadly its not just canals and I can walk round where I live in a small hamlet and still come back with a bag full of crap and 2 days later repeat the walk and its all back again... I hope that councils organise mass voluntary litter picks after all these lockdowns and I will glady join!! Soon to become a boater myself I have litter pickers at the ready but realise my limits, it all helps however minor. Rich... the mad dash from another boater sounds like a mad dash for the last space in a supermarket carpark!! I am not surprised you had words!! Your new home is just around the corner, how exciting!!!! Not long now... lynette xx

That must be so disheartening for you, but imagine how bad it would be if you didn't do what you do. Generally the canals are great do don't be put off. It's just a sign of the times.

Lovely to see you back again. Your videos are so calming. Thank you. Rich, your comments about lock down and screen time resonate with me, and I have been watching more and more vlogs on KZbin - including the van-lifers. Ash is a legend. Watch all his work. Another legend, and friend of Ash's, is CJ, - Project Amber. His vlogs are worth as much time as Ash's. He's in a warmer place now. Both of them make really good videos. Covid has delayed my hunt for a narrowboat. Perhaps this year? :-) I live on the wild west coast of Scotland, so getting to the Midlands and canals is difficult. Last lived on the cut in the 1970's. I'm getting on a bit. :-) Thank you once again for your super vlogs. You are a lovely couple. Looking forward to the next video. Take care and stay safe. :-)

Good to see you guys again and thank god for people like you who care so much about the environment we live in . . . It disgusts me how people think it’s acceptable to leave rubbish behind for others to clear . . . If I saw someone doing that I wouldn’t be able to control my emotions . . . They would certainly think twice !!. Anyway it was like standing at the end of your boat with Rich when I watched this . . . Just having a friendly chat . Take care and no stressing.

Hi Fran and Rich. It's tiller handle Dave here. I did leave a comment on this very good Vlog just after it went up. And I asked if you had thought any more about what design you wanted. That's if you do want one still 😜. Stay safe both. Dave and Diane xx

Hi Dave, sorry for not replying before, we have had so much going on with finalising the boat details. We would love you to make us a tiller handle, just something very simple, but we have no idea of the size required. Maybe we can let you know once we actually take posession f the boat. Thank you so much x

@@FloatingOurBoat Hi Fran and Richard. I was worried if you were alright. It's great to hear that you still want that Tiller handle. I'm ready when you are. I bet you are getting excited about how the new boat is coming on. We moved one step closer to getting back on the cut. Did I tell you we were waiting for probate on a house my wife Diane had inherited. Well. We have probate. And as soon as we are allowed out. We will be heading north to a few Brrokers. Apparently, there is a big shortage of boats for sale. As fast as they come in. They sell. We could like you. Have one built? But I'm not getting any younger. So, we don't want to go on a build waiting list. We somewhat feel we will notice just a few more boats than when we last did it, ten years ago. Hope you are both alright. Both had our Jabs. So we are raring to go. Dave and Diane xx

Hi to you both, enjoyed your vlog can't believe what people leave or throw away. Well done to you both for tidying up the canal sides. The tow paths are certainly muddy. I have been watching Lost in Europe for about 2 years also another good one is project amber . . We have got a motorhome and love it,but because of covid we haven't been away much. Only 2 weeks in just over a year. We go up to Scotland quite a lot (highland ) absolutely love it . Pleased to hear you got to see your new boat.

Just subscribed and been binge watching your vids. Loving them. It's unbelievable what people think is acceptable to leave behind. I used to live near a beach that was popular with local surfers, some of them would think nothing of using the dunes as their toilet. I saw one guy from my kitchen window peel off his wetsuit and arm himself with paper before squatting in the dunes. If only I'd had a catapult that morning! It's bad enough when other dog owners don't pick up but when it's human it's unforgivable.

We live in Northwest Indiana and have a game feeder in our back yard. I have it set to run ( 6 ) times a day, it throws out shelled field corn. When it goes off the wild Turkey come running in to feed, usually about 20 to 30 at a time. In the evening a couple of Deer also come in to feed.

Coming to you from Georgian Bay in Canada. Here we have several feet of snow and -17 temperatures at the moment. So we're really looking forward to spring when we can get on board our sail boat that is "up on the hard" for the winter. Georgian Bay completely freezes over so boats go to bed for the winter. And even though we're still in the grip of winter it's beautiful, and wonderful to gat out in. I think you're right about most people feeling the same way over the lockdown and it being winter at the same time. We take longer to do things or don't do them at all. But don't feel bad about it. Winter is a good time for resting the body and for inward reflection. It was a pleasure to sit with my tea this morning and watch you both. I hear you about the rubbish loud and clear, and as another supporter has said there's nothing you can do about it. "Just be the change", it is so true. But you guys are already doing that. By the way, Fran, whatever happened to the sourdough bread episode, did I miss that somehow? Or have you not done it yet? Too much rambling, sorry, cheers! you two, looking forward to next episode.

I so understand your frustration on the littering. We are full-time RVers here in the US, changed our residency from Wisconsin to South Dakota (less income taxes there plus our mail service is there), formed a LLC to own our vehicles including the RV in Montana (no sales tax on vehicles there), and we winter in Arivaca, AZ. Always a challenge for medications, doctors visits and getting our mail forwarded to wherever we are.

Well done you guys. Totally agree with your frustrations, life is a little boring at the moment. Can't wait to be able to cruise our boat again. Watching your vlogs, and others like yourself help the likes of us, as we don't live aboard. But don't worry if you can't make too many vlogs at the moment. It's not long now in the grand scheme of things until adventure and excitement once again is possible. Great work with the rubbish collection too. My partner and myself often do the same, so you're not alone but it does feel like a loosing battle sometimes. Keep up the good fight and doing your best, as you do. Lots of love guys🤗 Jim & Claire

That’s the lowest mood video I think I’ve watched of yours. Fully understandable of course like all of us waiting for change, seasonal and otherwise. It’ll come as will your boat as will your 60th ..... the passing of time is a certainty. Lots to look forward to in your bucket list. I built a few bird boxes and am enjoying watching the sparrows scope them out and pair up for the moving in. I had a litter picker for Christmas last year and I get a lot of satisfaction litter picking around our little hamlet. It also cheers others up to see you doing your bit and maybe inspires them. As to the litter louts, life’s too short to give them any brain time. Take care.

Lovely to have my morning coffee watching you today. We’re hunkered down, schools cancelled because we’re having a nasty freezing rain storm today, though we live right on the coast so it may be mostly rain . If it does end up freezing , it will coat the foot plus of snow we received last week. Uck 🥶. I’m longing for spring, watching bloggers videos where trees are in bud and grass is greening up makes the longing stronger.😢. I’d love to go spend a few hours in one of the big greenhouses around, it really helps with my winter doldrums to just sit in the warmth with the smell of the earth and see all the plants. Anyway, you don’t need to read about my mood. You must be getting excited about the new boat, hopefully some restrictions will lift soon and you can cruise to enjoy her. Take care, stay safe and well.🙋🏼
