Hello you 2, I have just spent the last 2 weeks binge watching your videos vlogs from the beginning. I love them. Like Rich, my family did a couple of canal boat holidays in the early 70, when I was 9 or 10. Me and my brother and Sister had a great time and loved it. Not so much my mum, the first holiday she came back with pneumonia and the 2nd holiday which was down on the Llangollen, she broke her ankle and ended up in Whitchurch cottage hospital. That was it then for family cruising! Lol. Sorry Fran has been in the wars and hope you are feeling better soon. Love the weaving and would love to see more of it xxx

Weaving next to the canal looks so idyllic! Just lovely! My partner Nathaniel and I are spinners, natural dyers and knitters, and he is a weaver. We would LOVE to see some footage of you spinning and your finished yarn! We're still watching our way through all your videos from the beginning, so maybe there is already some footage we haven't seen, but it's always fun to see more. :) Also, thank you so much for continuing to speak about the huge problem of single-use plastics. Perhaps those who complain about "eco-warriors" would understand better if they could see the effects of plastics in the environment and in human bodies. I highly recommend the film "A Plastic Ocean" as a good place to start. 💜 Take care! ~Tiyana
@FloatingOurBoat2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tiyana. Wow your lives sound really interesting. I would love to know more. Where abouts do you live, and do you have your own animals? You could email us at info@floatingourboat and tell us more if you have time. We have filmed little bits about the weaving in the past but hope to do some more filming soon. Spinning is very new to me, but I am so excited about it especially if I can start dying some wool myself without harmful chemicals
@tiyanawolf-whitehead56462 жыл бұрын
Will do! Spinning is wonderful, once you get the knack. :) I still have a lot to learn. And dying with plants that you forage or grow yourself is totally magical! Do you use a spinning wheel or some kind of spindle? We'll give you info and links to some of our favorite fiber people, videos and books on spinning, wool washing, and natural dying via email.
@FloatingOurBoat2 жыл бұрын
@@tiyanawolf-whitehead5646 That would be wonderful thank you. I don't have room for a spinning wheel on the boat so am sticking with a drop spindle for now and having lots of fun. I look forward to hearing from you. p.s. I think I left .com off the end of the email address. www.floatingourboat.com

Rich, I’m a brummy lass and i remember that advert. Fran I agree with the plastic. I live in a small town where co-op is prominent. We only shop the yellow sticker section to reduce food waste but the amount of plastic we get infuriates me! I now use the plastic as water catchers for plants, seedlings and catching spiders to release them because I can’t bare to throw the plastic away before it’s been put to good use.

It is hard isn't it? I know co-op recycle some plastic, but it really is a shame they have to use it in the first place

We have a super market called "Wegmans" and they have a huge fresh vegetable area. It seems that veggies in packages are in paper not plastic. Some stores have stopped using plastic for packaging your purchases. I have used my own canvas bags for over 30 years. I don't understand why stores do not insist on people bringing their own bags. But then again I live in a country where half the population doesn't care about anything. they follow their orange leader and violate whatever they feel like. I hope you leg heals quickly. I have it on good authority that bends on the Trent could be very scary when working boats had to navigate them on dark winter mornings, especially on an open stern with no railings. All that weed on the canal reminds me of my bike ride yesterday. I normally try to clear the bywash channels a bit when they need doing, but I was feeling too dizzy to do it at Hollingwood Hub. The water was within 2 inches of overflowing the sides of the lock. But, of course, at that height it goes over the tops of the gates, so it's not really too bad. There was a volunteer crew clearing weed out of Stavely lock. That's a bigger job because it's attached to Stavely Town basin. The supermarket advertising I remember is "So near, and yet so Spar!" It, um, certainly sticks in the mind! XD If the rest of the Chesterfield was connected, you'd be able to get just what you want at Morrisons in Stavely or a choice of Sainsbury's or Tesco just a bit further along in Chesterfield. I'm guessing they'd be about 3 days journey from where you found the Coop, though. Then there's proper greengrocer stalls in Chesterfield market and butchers in the market hall (if they're still there), not to mention a good sweet shop. :) They would be a bit of a walk from the new basin they're planning to build in Chesterfield. I guess it'll all be finished one day.

Those peppers gave me a laugh! I was out shopping just a couple of hours prior to watching this video (and bell peppers were on the list!) and, at the large supermarket I usually shop at, there were the same 3 bell peppers (yellow, orange and red) in plastic! I live in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada and it looks like the same outfit supply's that little shop you went to! So, what is one to do if the recipe calls for FOUR? Thankfully the shop here had bins of bell peppers, free of plastic wrappers. I still find it funny that each has its own little bar code sticker though!

Aw Fran, so sorry you hurt yourself, hopefully you’ll mend up properly in no time. I was thinking when you were walking to co-op, you could have sat on the bike to help get along easier. That’s a shame that the veg is all plastic wrapped, no doubt hot house grown in chemicals too.😕 It’s harvest time, hopefully you can find a farm stand soon. I wonder lately if the boat builders will start building in AC in the boats, with lithium batteries and solar panels RVers live off grid for ever these days here. They do have to do the black and grey water tanks , fill the water tanks, get petrol , propane etc like with your boats but they all seem to have AC they use when it gets very hot. Maybe they don’t there because AC isn’t common even in houses but if these droughts with such high temps keep up it might be a good idea. They are adjustable for how cold you want, it doesn’t have to be freezing, just pleasantly cool enough to get some sleep. Stay safe and well🙋🏼♀️🥰

I think some boats do have AC, but we really have been fine even without a fan. Sometimes it is better just to work with the weather rather than continually battle against it. When it was really hot, we just rested and had cold showers and it was fine

You were on my local canal! A bit short of water now at the top end but there is a very active group working on rebuilding the link to Chesterfield itself. (Worth mentioning that stone from quarries in Anston passed down the Chesterfield canal for the Houses of Parliament).
