Roglic was in some srious trouble, thanks to Wout van Eert for keeping him calm and help him reached the line in safe time for his over all victory.. if it was Tadej in yates situation on this stage in the gc it would have been over for Roglic..even tho he is my favorite cyclist at the moment, congrats to him to finally get this huge monumental win, tdf is what i need him to get.
@SuperVapourizer2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I actually disagree. Simon Yates' advantange, in the end, was slim, not threatening any GC. Wout and Roglich knew there was a decent, so why go to the absolute limit when you have numbers working for you, and Roglic and van Aert are the better time tryalists as well. Also, consider that Roglic had a > 6W/kg over 39min yesterday - a huge effort - so the premise may have been all along to ride a steady pace, even if there is an attack. There is only so much time a 6.5 W/kg can bring compared to 6.0W/kg if the attack is as close to the crest of the mountain as it was here. If this attack would have been at the bottom (and Yates could have sustained his wattage advantage) then it would have been dangerous. Now, as to Pogacar, you are certainly right. He's smoking everyone in basically any race and let's it look easy. So even with the better team, Jumbo is probably not going to win the TDF this year.

You all forgot that Wount Van Aert was dropped on some of the stages or he was just resting. What he did today was his job and he did it perfectly. Roglič gave everything on the stage before so this stage he was not really rested. Jumbo won this tour as a team and it was not that close like some of you are saying. They almost take a stage win today not almost lost the tour. But I agree that Pogačar is out of this world and has better team then last year. Now he can also relay on his team more.

Yates didn't "crack" Roglic. Roglic had a minute or more on Yates (a climbing specialist) when Yates attacked on the last climb. Roglic and WvA let him go because they knew they could pull him back in on the descent & flat into Nice. And that's what happened. Who cares if Yates won the stage. Roglic won Paris-Nice! two takes from this Paris-Nice stage 8: first, Roglic showing sign of weakness. second, Simon Yates sucks in descending. WVA and Roglic almost caught him in the descend. looks like Pogacar and his UAE team has the advantage in the TdF.
@martinomunaretto2882 жыл бұрын
I disagree with your second take: the last descent wasn't particularly technical or steep and it was quite obvious that WvA and Roglic would have reduced the gap
@ConsciousBreaks2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, apart from Simon Yates, the rest of the top 10 were beaten by an even greater margin than Pogacar at Tirreno-Adriatico. But yes, somehow I doubt Pogacar would have lost Simon Yates' wheel. However, I think TJV definitely has the superior team and the margin between the Pogacar and Roglic is very slim, if any, anyway.

@@paulsolon6229 Almeida is not going to the tour, TJV has Sepp Kuss and Jonas Vingegaard, and I don't think McNulty can match either of them in the mountains. I don't think UAE has a match for WVA, either. Maybe I'm missing something.
