Why? If you can’t pass the gward just say that
@smashleyscott8272
@smashleyscott8272 3 жыл бұрын
@@landon1640 ... I'll give you a few reasons: 1- Sport in MARTIAL arts (i.e. FIGHTING) should resemble real life scenarios as closely as possible in the rule sets, or it removes that practice of & training in said MARTIAL too far from applicability as a martial art, that it might just as well be basketball or tennis... 2- In real life scenarios, guard pulling for the sake of avoiding grappling from the feet, will not end well for the one dropping down to his/her ass... the proof of this is simple: this kind of guard pulling doesn't occur in MMA... why?? Because grappling changes DRAMATICALLY when striking is involved, and very few grapplers want to be caught underneath an opponent when they can pound on you. In the street, there are no rules preventing soccer kicks, knees to the head, etc... 3- Guard pulling that doesn't act as a direct entry into a sweep or a sub attempt is just straight up LAZY... it proves that traditionslism in BJJ has nullified the ROOT of the sport (Judo). If guard pulling is not used as a direct entry technique, and is allowed to just avoid working from your feet where the fight STARTS, there's no point to starting from your feet. It's a waste of time. 4- No Gi jujitsu is applicably NOT Brazilian Jujitsu. Because of the absence of the gi, the art changes DRAMATICALLY in the application of techniques, strategies, and skillsets... Gi and no gi are as different as BJJ and Judo, despite their relationship & similarities. No Gi is basically submission GRAPPLING, which involves WRESTLING, and the rule set should REFLECT that. BJJ is a war art... WHY?? Because it allows the use of the uniform as a weapon (just like Judo)... and the rules should also reflect that (and it obviously does). In GRAPPLING,the rule set should seek to not deemphasize legitimate grappling skillsets or techniques. Guard pulling to avoid working from your feet does EXACTLY that... 5- Guard pulling is boring to watch. Everyone complains about the lack of spectators in submission grappling, yet the rules never reflect a desire to FORCE action or activity... unlike in wrestling, there are no penalties for passivity or stalling or fleeing. Sitting into a guard position is EXACTLY that... and it's WAY beyond lame. If you can't grapple from your feet, you aren't a good grappler, regardless of how good your ground game is without striking allowed, because as soon as striking enters the equation, your ground game will lose it's typical effectiveness, and the ability to grapple from your feet will become that much more important. Striking from top position is far easier than from your back.... and if I get to hit, I have ZERO problem sitting in guard or halfguard. Wresters have proven this time and again in MMA. If you cannot effective grapple from your feet, you're not a real grappler.
@aznravenflame
@aznravenflame 3 жыл бұрын
@@smashleyscott8272 1) I agree but one can pull guard in real life and finish from their back, evidenced by the Gracies many times 2) In real life scenarios people HAVE pulled guard, go watch the street altercation videos, and there are plenty of examples in MMA where grappling specialists basically jump or accepts guard without attempting a takedown or after not being successful with a takedown 3) It's not lazy if its a strategy, this isn't even a point. If it is allowed to not start on the feet, why should someone be forced to do so? 4) Nogi isn't BJJ, I agree. So what? 5) Guard play is extremely interesting, maybe not to you, but this isn't a reason. I don't think you speak for everyone. The guys on the top or bottom can push the action, it is not specific to wrestling where action can be pushed. If you submit the other guy, you are the better submission grappler, regardless of how you want to subjectively argue. When striking enters the game, and you win via grappling, you are the better MMA grappler. Imanari, Tonon, Hall all disagree with you.
@CiGambino
@CiGambino 3 жыл бұрын
Its a sport, with rules. Being a sport, competitors will develop the best possible way to win for their skill set within those rules. I dont think sport juijitsu and a real fight have much in common. MMA ia much closer, but its still nowhere near a real fight. You have weight classes and rules. No weapons are allowed, there are no jump ins. It happens in a controlled environment.

Against some random aggressor woman at a bar, I'm sure it's quite useful. Redneck broad thinks she's hitting on her man, tries to grab Kelly's hair (as women in fights are wont to do), ends up dumped on the ground -- then next thing the redneck chick knows her shoulder ligaments are snapping. Not a lot of real-life self-defense situations would involve one of these young ladies getting into a scrap with a Muay Thai prize fighter, or whatever.
