Flooded Opal Mine, Hardcore Digging For Gems!

After months of downtime, we have finally made our way back out to white cliffs to begin a season of mining only to discover the mine flooded!
With thousands of litres of water between us and the opal level we grabbed a pump got it going and focus our efforts on another area of the claim.
Utilising a blower I purchased and refurbished Jc set to work where I left off. After some very hard days work he managed to sink the shaft down to a depth of 34ft and found a bit of opal trace in the wall that eventually lead to a small seam of red multicoloured crystal opal.
With the help of locals Max and Wazza we were able to shift our waste dirt from under the blower and get the digger down into the mine!

Good luck with the dewatering! We just set a 10HP electric pump in our gold mine to start pumping all the snowmelt out, it's slow going because the fractures in the rock are also full of water but we're slowly winning the decline back. It's a process to be sure.

@@younggunsopalhunters Oh yeah, that'll happen. We've blown a couple up - if yours sucked up gravel, try wrapping some stainless steel screen around the intake and hanging the pump so that it sits above the bottom.

Why not use the blower to dewater? seems like it would make a nice little rain storm. Also, you should put down a muck sheet in front of the vac line, you'll probably gain a good work circle around the end since nothing can build up

We’re not sure that would work because of the certain type of suck the blower has, also we don’t want to get water in the pipes because when we do suck up dirt if it’s wet it could get the dirt muddy snd stuck. But the muck sheet could be a good idea!

You do know we get monsoonal rain in Australia, we've had a massive wet season this year and it's still happening... The monsoon trough frequently spawns individual low pressure systems, producing heavy rain and flooding.
