I lived in the Hope area in the early 70's, and I recall many of the old timers back then advising NOT to put a road up the coq, for fear of flooding...and that was back then!

My heart goes out to all affected by the flooding, but it begs the question of how building permits were issued knowing full well that all the affected areas were on flood plain. Greed is the only answer!

@@freedapeeple4049 Yes that is true in the past, but you'd think that they'd ask "is this property prone to flooding?" In modern times as land is less available we build in area's that are flood prone, one cannot build in an area if building permits are not issued but as towns grow they need to utilize the land in order to gain more tax revenue...so permits are approved.

Yes it’s quite unbelievable…I’m sure experts knew this was only a matter of time considering that whole area used to be a lake. Each governing party elected just kept passing the “solution projects” for the next political party to pay for. It’s also why Lower mainland ans Fraser Valley has the worst traffic infrastructure .

Sumas use to be a lake , they drained it and built on it . Mother Nature wants her lake back .

The Nooksack river overflowed and there are no catchment basins for most of Sumas mtn. The water went straight to the lowest areas. Part of which used to be a lake but had been turned into incredibly fertile farms.

This area was naturally a lake 100 years ago. Humans decided to do something different to the area. Fast forward to 4 days ago when mother nature took it back. My heart is with those citizens. Please leave it as it is for fear of further loss down the line, rebuild life a different way.

@@KushbBlazin not the way I'd say it but I cant argue clear all the old growth ,drain marshes and lakes for farms plough nature flat and when the hills and land cant hold the water and it all washes away call it a tradegy as an outsider myself was so impressed when people here would we got hydro cheap electricity until I worked in kwadacha and met the people displaced forcibly for the stolen energy it's all built on ,this is the result of stripping nature clean and selling every square

Hi Can you do a flight over the part of the highway where the emergency block dike dam is being built to damming off the highway area that is flooded and fly down to 500 feet or lower, as you can do that now as there are no persons below to getting an accurate works assessment to that program to sorting out as to how long it will take to open the highway. And of course post it ASAP, Chilliwack has run out of FOOD AND FUEL!

The mountains are to the north of Fraser valley, open Google maps… I was flying to the East of Abbotsford where they drained the lake for farm land

I'd like to point out one thing, this is to be expected. How do you think the fertile farm land in the valley bottom was created anyway? There is a reason farm houses are built on a small hill. If we turn the same land into subdivisions well, isn't that just stupid on so many levels?

If you're building on a flood plain, good idea to consider build your house up a few feet and having an emergency hill for your animals to gather on.

Nope they won't and when something happens me and you will foot the bill. I'd like Alberta to put their money where their mouths are. Make up a contract that makes them responsible to pay for clean up if anything happens with the pipeline they want. Shouldn't be a problem as they seem so sure it's safe and we have nothing to be concerned about.

The old Abbotford farts that controlled the area didn't and wouldn't allow the farmland to go to development. These guys were slightly to the Right of Ronal Reagan but looked to govern their local town. Notice 98% of the flooding in on farms. Pray for the cows. Those cows, some of those Holsteins can be worth several hundred thousand dollars........EACH.

I was trapped in this flood on my 40acre farm for 3 days our house went from no water to completely flooded around 4 feet in a matter of minutes definitely one of the scariest moments of my life

73 years since our last flood and before that was in 1894. 54 years before the flood of 1948. Look 1894 and 1948 all have the same numbers. Now if you take 54 go 5x4=20 & 73 go 7x3=21 you put those together and you get 2021 🧐🤓
