It's hardly stopped raining since the 23rd of September and six month's rainfall has fallen in just six weeks and the farm is really suffering. Here's an update.

Nice video! Firstly, thanks for putting the Bunts in. I see when you originally did, the Local Parish council thanked you and your wife. Thank You also from the rest of us! Secondly, I always find your video's very educational on both farming (I have friends who are milk farmers, but none ar arable), but also on environmental issues. It's something which I conclude that the Government should be getting farmers involved in education, and hence broadening the horizons and environmental debate beyond the main-stream activist yurt-dwelling lobby (they are not wrong, just too dominant in the debate). Thirdly, your gate/wall. Yes there are new Data Protection directives which mean the police can not freely give you/the land owner the drivers details, but under the Road Traffic Act (1988) the rules are simple: "If you’re driving a motorised vehicle and are involved in an accident which causes damage or injury to another person, vehicle, property or animal, (including dogs, horses, cattle and sheep), you must stop and give your vehicle registration along with your name and address to “anyone with reasonable grounds to be asking for those details”." Hence, as under the law the landowner and yourself as tenant have "reasonable grounds to be asking for the drivers details", you should be reporting the lack of contact from the offending driver directly to the police, and the police should hence be following up and threatening action against the driver under the Road Traffic Act (1988). Good Luck!

I live in Worcestershire and theyve started to plant really short crops in the fields near the river Teme and behind that a bunch of willow for pelletising. Anything else is going to dissapear. Over near the Carrington bridge outside of Worcester there is about 3 miles either side of the dual carriage thats under water, included in this is all the works vehicles being used to build another bridge. I've no idea what made them leave their machinery on the flood plain in winter but I bet it will cost them!

Sods law with the drainage in different fields. It rains lot and it floods. It's as dry as a bone and the ground retains no moisture. Doesn't matter what you do, always against something. Best of luck with the weather. Here in Western Australia its just as crazy, mega hot days followed by the next 10°C cooler. Nothing you can forecast, just go by the day.

If it really is a 1-in-300 year weather system there's not a lot you can do. Here in Thailand water management and flood prevention are perpetual problems with constantly alternating periods of drought and monsoon rain. Previously, large reservoirs were built to store water during the rainy season to use in the dry season. The policy has changed in recent years to build lots of smaller reservoirs rather than fewer large ones. The Akubra hat suits you! Australian farmers would appreciate some of that water after a prolonged period of intense drought. I'd rather be in a country with too much water than too little. That business about the police not being able to tell you who caused damage to your property because of privacy laws further vindicates my decision to leave the UK. The country is going down the drain fast. I'd be tempted to write a letter to Priti Patel about this utter stupidity. Very interesting video though, Harry, getting an inside view into the problems faced by UK farmers. It looks as if Brits should prepare themselves for higher bread prices next year.

Harry, your local plod are dead wrong about privacy laws. In fact, the driver, if he/she didn't leave details has committed a criminal offence (s170 Road Traffic Act 1988) and there is a specific exemption from the Data Protection Act 2018 dealing with processing details for criminal investigations or legal proceedings. There is, though, a 6-month time limit on prosecuting; I'd get in touch with them and raise a complaint if they don't at least give you or the landowner a crime reference number for the insurers of the land to follow up on.

If you want to prevent flooding it's a good idea to work out the best method to plant as many trees as possible on your land. Woods and forests rarely flood whereas fields act like roofs on houses, collecting all the water and passing it on. There's even been a few articles on this, even by people and papers I generally take a very dim view of such as this: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/13/flooding-public-spending-britain-europe-policies-homes But for once in his life Monbiot got something right. As a plus a few extra trees can be farmed for timber so it's a win-win.

Hi, based on my own recent experience, this may help you. Report to the Police an act of criminal damage, to your gate and your wall. The Police have to investigate, ah, they will find the know all the details of the person who committed the crime, insist they prosecute, unless the individual wants to settle the damage out of court. . . I got my wall rebuilt.

Man has worked out how to grow a monocrop but what you are seeing is mother nature poking us in the eye. We kid ourselves we are growing wheat for food but in reality it is for money. We need do be developing systems that don't rip the skin off our land. That is the challenge for us.

Phew, that's OK then, we can all relax. I just got a bit worried about 11,000 scientists in agreement that extreme weather conditions are rising abnormally. (www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/environment/2019/nov/05/climate-crisis-11000-scientists-warn-of-untold-suffering) It's OK though because the UK has this magic forcefield which prevents things like that happening to us. It only happens to other countries. Now, "Darling, where are the keys to the Jag?"

I was told 30 years ago that London would be under water by 2000. I was told 20 years ago it would be by 2012. And now I'm told that "the world will burn" in eight years so I must pay more, get less and smile about it.. I'm afraid wolf has been called too many times for me to take this "climate emergency" seriously. There used to debate about this issue, and pollution is a real and genuine issue, but now people just swallow the mainstream doctrine no questions asked, it's pathetic. There are thousands of scientists who disagree with the ones you hear day in, day out in the media. Go listen to them and make your own minds up.

The local law are partially correct, but. S172 of the road traffic act required the other party to exchange their details, registration, name and address. The police would fail with the new GDPR regulations if they took those details help on a computer system and gave them to you, UNLESS, the other party authorises them to do so. Your insurance company can now make a data protection request to the Police for those details, explaining their reasons. Hope that helps.

@Harry's Farm .. The gate/wall damage shown at 10:50 onwards was caused by a Fiat 500 (2007-2018 model) .. deciphered from the numbers on the right-hand wing mirror shell shown at 11:29 .. The accident was on the west side of the B4020 just south of the Burford Garden centre, co-ordinates 51°47'42.42"N, 1°37'45.24"W It must have been one hell of a crash for a featherweight car like the 500 to cause that much damage, and surely written the car off and caused injury to whoever was in it, all of which would have been recorded in various ways. The road is wide / flat / straight for at least 500ft in each direction so how this happened is a mystery. *_BUT .. if I can work all that out in 10 minutes, why can’t the police .. ?_*

For the new gate this might help but get proper legal advice for accurate information. Whoever is responsible to pay for it should get the police incident number to prove it was reported/ known about by the police within 5 days then claim to Motor Insurers Bureau through the untraced drivers agreement. If the police are being awkward complain formally and also report the driver under s154 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 for not giving their insurance info. This seems unlikely to get any police response but shows the MIB that everything that could be done was. It is unlikely the MIB would reject it due to being on private land. If they do the govt has to pay as the law is in breach of the EU directive requiring compulsory insurance to drive on private land.
