The important thing here is that Floor and Hank switched positins here. She did it more traditional than she would do it for Nightwish and he tried to leave his comfortzone and do a rockish growled version for her. He even asked her to perform with her and Nightwish together and she promised him to find a way to do that, which shows how he appreciates her even though he didn't know her and her music before. this show is really incredible in forming bonds like that.

Hank wanted to do it with a Nightwish sound, a more rock way, the band here is amazing. He also asked Floor to join Nightwish in Netherlands to sing this with Floor and Nightwish, Floor has said yes, so let's hope he will be there. If these two would have Nightwish as they backup band I just cannot imagine how it really would sound.

I've never heard POTO performed better than Floor and Henk; two great singers in their own genres with crossover of both, although Floor had less to do to bring her operatic voice into play than Henk did coming into the rock/metal arena. But he worked on his growls and movements to make the performance a true tour de force. Henk's work on The Sound Of Silence made me move him from the Bass-Baritone range to the Baritone-Tenor range which is JMHO of where his voice is at his age right now. Thanks to both of you for your reactions, well done!

@@PeaceweaponPT Unfortunately many people are extremely narrow minded about music and vocal performances. Floor's approach to POTO is quite different than Tarja's, and I wish people could appreciate the different artistic choices each of them make in the song rather than starting from the premise than one approach is absolutely right and any other approach absolutely wrong. Tarja's approach takes what was a musical theatre song and performs it in full operatic technique, using headvoice everywhere but the opening section, and really leaning hard into every note the whole way through the song to stand up to the louder Nightwish version, and she does the crescendo at an even volume, in opera tone, giving her excellent open head resonance on those notes. Floor instead uses mixed voice in an opera-like vocal placement in most of the song, which allows her to take advantage of her phenomenal chest resonance and to easily flip into other mixed-voice placements for embelishments (such as on "in my mind"). Floor also uses dynamics in the main body of the song, starting the first section lighter and only really fully digging in towards the end near the crescendo. Finally, Floor's approach to the crescendo is basically totally unique. She makes heavy use of dynamics, climbing in power at each climb in note all the way up to that massive 7 second D6. The necessary trade-off of this approach is that it cannot really be done in an operatic voice placement, so she has to give up some open resonance for the escalating power she gets from the increasing comnpression she uses. Both approaches are fantastic and suit the particular aptitudes and tastes of the respective singers. It's perfectly fine for people to prefer one or the other, but I wish they wouldn't feel the need to tear either down since they are both amazing.

Funny (and great) we all have such different views on things. It's what keeps it interesting. Phantom of the Opera being my top 3 musical songs ever, i always wondered why the phantom shouted just before the cresendo. It ruined the impact for me. Especially on the last note. Every phantom performance i watched i got annoyed by that last shout, still going on while she was doing her last note. When i first watched this i felt this was the firrst time it was timed perfectly, and the way it always should have been. The build up is incredible and the last 'Wait for me' couldn't have a more perfect set up for Floor's last night making the impact twice as powerful. Like said, it's great we all see and hear things differently.

The fact that the majority of our country the Netherlands (17 mln inhabitants) does not know floor or nightwish is a cultural thing. You might know (or not) that the Netherlands is the biggest in electronic dance music in the world. This year in the best DJ in the world selection, 6 of the 10 best DJ's in the world are from the Netherlands... So EDM is kind of mainstream here.

At first I wasn't wanting to agree, but I realized I had sort of thought the same thing. Remember they were trapped on a very small stage area with water pools on either side of them. This restricted their movements quite a bit. Henk added distortion to his voice in honor of Floor. This was close to the Nightwish rendition of the Phantom. Obviously not a heavy as Nightwish but similar. Wait until Henk performs it on stage with Nightwish! It should be even better. did you notice how happy Floor was when he added the distortion to his voice. I think she was having a Henkgasm!

I know you’ve said you were going to react to all of Floors (yesssss!!) but there are a number of songs worth listening to from the other singers. I don't share your point of criticism; I thought Henk performed his part very well. He should, as he was the Dutch Phantom 20 years ago and he has played him many times. I guess it's just a matter of taste. Fun fact: Henk agreed to sing the Phantom with Floor under a special condition: When Nightwish comes to the Netherlands again for a concert I want to sing the song again... with Nightwish! Floor: Ok, deal! And guess what: they will be in NL november next year giving two concerts! I'm looking forward to see Henk and Floor do the Phantom with the whole band! It's going to be epic!

You should hear Henk Porte sing to Floor Jansen. He does Sound of Silence but in the Disturbed version. It was really good. In the episode, I believe he said he was nervous about adding distortion to his voice because he just wasn’t used to that but he wanted to do that for Floor.

Interesting reaction. I prefer their interplay and I think you can see their bond several times. I really like the airy colour to Floor's voice and Henks use of several techniques (particularly distortion). I also like the metal arrangement. If we compare it to Nicole Scherzinger's Phantom kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnaZhIV4o6l7rpo which follows the books and starts an octave lower as well as having the ending note higher (though only 4 seconds as compared to Floor's eight), it still feels less varied and exciting. The bond also feels less sincere (Who made the choice of 4 phantoms there?). I'd prefer Henk/Floor's version. Personally, I prefer the metal arrangement and the colour of Floor's voice and her relation to Henk.
