The full floor pan is now welded in place! I overcame the fitment issues in-between the floor pan and the firewall, and got my relief cuts all welded up! It was a bit of a challenge fitting the floor to the transmission tunnel, but the relief cuts shown last video are now closed up and ready to grind. I’m now happy with how the floor mates to the transmission tunnel.
So glad it’s welded in place and solid and looking forward to the next steps. Thanks for watching and lots more fun to come!

Ahh, thank you 😊 for a great pick me up, on this Sat morning 🌄!!! The Dad joke, segment title puns are almost as good as the restoration content !!! Your detail obsessing moments, at times make the "Infernal Craftsman" guy look like a "hack!!! All kidding aside, the whole completed floor pan, looks amazing, 🤩 and must be a relief that the car is structurally sound again... Loved the "Knock, knock knocking on "Evan's" floor title, priceless!!! Yikes, now the long wait for the next one . Keep at it brother...

Thanks so much! I really enjoy working on the details, it takes more time, but it would bug me if I knew there were huge gaps between the floor and its supports. Sure, it’ll all get seam sealed anyway, but still. Now I’ll just have hammer marks everywhere 😂 Robert does good work, I empathize when he comes across parts that don’t fit right. Sometimes you just need a bigger hammer. As always, thanks for the kind and encouraging comments!

Great job, Evan. I can suggest you use Cleco pliers and fasteners. They will keep metal aligned and connected with quick on and off. Buy several sizes, as each size s a different color. Easy to distinguish and organize. Cheap and a huge time saver. A great job!

Thanks! It’s actually funny you should mention clecos, just last night someone suggested them on one of my Facebook posts, and I wasn’t really aware of them. Then I came across a video of a fabricator who was using them. They look like they would have saved me a ton of time and headache doing the cowl and firewall 😂

Love watching this content! On your plug welds if your lacking penetration turn up the heat or knock down the wire speed. I noticed on your weld your making a halo motion. Your tip of your wire should never cross the outer circle. Let the puddle of the weld melt in to it and still make a halo motion only much smaller. Results in less grinding and more penetration. Keep up the good work!!!! Your doing awesome!!!

Thanks! I definitely could use some practice and pointers! I tend to err on the side of less heat to avoid burn through, but I did turn things up a bit while I was working. I sometimes feel like I’m chasing the settings, but that’s probably lack of experience as much as anything. I can always redo it until I get it right 😅

@@evansmessygaragethat’s exactly right. I’ve been welding for 15 years and I still have mess ups! It’s metal if we mess up we can fix it!

Question what size wire and what setting are you using on your mig welder? Looking good!
@evansmessygarage
@evansmessygarage 10 ай бұрын
I’m using 0.023” wire with C25 argon/CO2, but the settings are a little ambiguous. It’s an old Lincoln Handy Mig, and the units aren’t clear. But for stitching thin metal I use the lowest setting of Low/1, and if I’m welding to something thicker like the floor supports, I’ll bump it to low/2. Again, it’s not clear from the settings which is voltage and amperage, etc.

@@evansmessygarage looks like your welds are a little cold to me. You could go hotter for better penetration.

@PetesRestorations you’re not wrong! I had some spots where I had some poor penetration and had to bump up the heat. I’m going to go back around when I clean things up and see where redoing welds is necessary
