Always used to wonder what's the secret of this wow factor the best Karate masters present. Used to wonder until discovered Sensei Hotton's videos,. He goes in his explanations of the mechanics of certain techniques so much deeper than in the usual dojo drill, that suddenly I started seeing Karate in a completely new way. Big thank you for making your teachings available!

Maybe I'm comparing them because of the same haircut and style of karate but Hotton focuses more on vibratory power and Bertel uses more fast twitch fiber forward momentum. Two very different modes same style

It's always a pleasure to watch a video from a martial artist who clearly knows what they're talking about. Thank you

Very advanced ideas. Concepts I haven't seen from other Karate Black Belts. Is this from your Karate training, or from studying Chinese internal arts like Ba Gua or Tai Chi?

If karate was taught like this, it would be a real, viable alternative to BJJ. Seemingly and unfortunately, BJJ is starting to soften just like karate has. Man, it would be great if there was a real Renaissance of traditional karate. Thank you for the video Sensei.

Thank you sensei Rick Hotton! I wish I had the privilege, when I was younger, to be your student. Anyway I find interesting(if not amazing) every video clip with you that Shotokan Karate makes it available. Thank you both!

I really enjoy and learn a great deal by watching Sensei Hottons explosive movements and what it actually means to compress and explode while blocking and punching. It’s literally mind blowing watching his speed. One can attempt to aspire to a greater sense of self based on the benchmarks set by Sensei Hotton.

Then they say that Karate is weak. This gentleman here, in my humble opinion, can take on the brawlers of MMA any day.

I don't mean to call you out, but although I understand your intention behind your comment is kind, Sensei would disagree with this comment because that is not what karate-do is about. A good piece of advice for life is that it is not always necessary and often times insulting to have to constantly prove yourself. I do two of the most competitive and most popular styles (Jiujitsu and Judo) and even those in my community agree that we do the art for the sake of the art and for the sake of learning, while there is a small percent who seek to be champions or whatever. Very few of us actually believe and openly say we are superior to anyone. Those who say that usually get their butt handed to them a lot in class.

this is what shito always has done, and now shotokan is back to basic. But its to slopy and your moves are to big and wide. If you compression is good you dont need to that mutch space for your punch, its looks like you start your punch from the other side of the world
