My son's dad was the love of my life. He had schizophrenia. During bad episodes he starved himself thin he would say things but it wasn't him. Didn't sound like him didn't look like him. One time he starved so long he was 116 lbs at 6.2' wheelchair bounf. It was so scary and heartbreaking we did therapy and different meds...nothing made it all better. This song came out right before our son was born in 2019. I would play this balling in my room alone. I only allowed short supervised visits with me these last few years. He was running on the highway a few weeks ago. He thought someone was chasing him. He was struck. He's gone. And now I'm balling to this song again. God I loved him. I loved him so very much. When he wasn't someone else. And even when he was.

We all wave goodbye to "the person we could have been" at some point in our life. The acceptance we all seek comes from ourselves. You're exactly where you should be. Accept that, and you can begin to grow past what you thought was ever possible. Patience is key, especially with yourself. Whatever you're feeling, there's plenty of us who feel the same. Failure and success is what it feels like to grow as a human being. Accept it.

I honestly love this sound and the concept put out from this. We’re almost always somebody else these days... even though we are literally the same ‘person’. We create a mask, a front, an image to try to cover up our flaws, insecurity and pain, so the society accepts us easier. It is rare that we find someone who really takes the time to connect with you, and not only sees you by these images but who you really are. But when you’ve found someone like that, you’ll realise that flaws and insecurities can be accepted, and pain can be healed.....life is so much more then a mask.

Coming back to this song because you keep telling yourself every trauma you go through will make you stronger, you'll grow from it, but eventually you realize you're just tired and numb and you'll never be the person you could've been without all this pain. This needless, relentless pain, that keeps washing over you like massive waves. Every time you think things will be better, you're hit again, and another layer of you has been washed away. Eventually you look in the mirror and see a mask, you realize it's all that's left of you. The need to stay alive, meet obligations. But you, you're gone.

Man, this song and the video both are so beautiful. If you have ever struggled with addiction or depression, or anxiety, or have PTSD. This song will bring all that out at once but in a good way. But than again it makes me think of how I once couldn’t stand to be alone with myself or look at myself than to now where I love myself I’m my own best friend. Than it makes me think of my grandma who has dementia and is losing herself and like she’s her and she’s here but she’s not. I’m so grateful for the art in this song.

I can relate... love and drugs dont mix. Ever. Drugs bring forth the worst in a person no matter how much we try to mean good. And love, well when you love and are loved the best is expected and given. But how do those two flow perfectly if they're two completely different colors? Black and white. You dont have to agree, that's fine. Bur remember, until then, you're just fumbling in the grey.

this makes me think of someone I love struggling with drugs/alcohol. How it alters and distorts who they are, what they say and the negative impact it has on them and the people that love them. to me this goes a lot deeper than faking who you are and finding yourself- it's breaking yourself down and building yourself up through the painful struggles in life. and when they say "I saw a part of you that only when you're older you will see too" is a representation of the person/ loved ones on the outside seeing that the person using is capable of so much if they were only to break free of the abuse. it's only when you look back, do you see what you used to be and who you have become.

This song always makes me realize what I did wrong and how I’m always acting like somebody else. I’m always thinking:”I don’t want this! I got to make this right!” But every time I’m actually trying to act like myself and be myself and be confident about my self I slip into this other kind of me that just tries to fit in. To other people I preach over and over to love yourself while I actually really don’t like myself....i love this song very much but my own self reflection makes me cry every time Your music is amazing 🖤 Edit: Actually I think this song kind of got me on the path, that I want to take and helped me to accept what I want, and act on it. Awareness is the only appropriate step forward for anyone who molds into an untrue, less natural self in social situations. There is actual a lot going on in the typical mind when the "more real" self hides like that, for most people it is a defense mechanism- the mind protects itself from a perceived threat by hiding the "self" and as a consequence creates a mask so that it is less likely to have the oppurtunity to feel the pain that it knows all too well- the pain often comes back stronger unfortunately after this when the mask fades and the more true self floats back up. But don't be afraid, I promise people love and will love you for who you are and you'll be much, much happier when you feel more like you. In other words: Be aware 😊 Don't hide- this is how to be your true self

Gosh, the scene from Locke & Key with Sam really hit me hard. I actually forgot about the series and rewatched it now, because there was only season 1 out back then. And this ending for Sam again really made me emotional. I was diagnosed with depression and burn out with 18. But after therapy I came to the conclusion that one major root lies in my family and how I grew up. My parents were loving but traumatised too and should have get help. My dad's personality changed after a long life-threatening illness. I was only a little girl, but I was constantly trying to foresee how he would react. This kind of empathy made me a great coach and teacher, next year I'm doing my master in clinical psychology. But to be honest I would have preferred to have a 'normal' childhood rather than going through anxiety and all of the struggles being so insecure in my early 20s. Miss those rare times when my dad was reading fairy tales to me.

This song speaks to me about narcissistic abuse. You think you know somebody and it turns out you never knew them at all. The person that they really are wasn't what they sold you. The transition from seeing them shift into something else is startling and you basically grieve the death of the illusion because you became somebody else while you were with them and it's a journey back to yourself.

Lyrics : i saw the part of you That only when you're older you will see too You will see too I held the better cards But every stroke of luck has got a bleed through It's got a bleed through You held the balance of the time That only blindly I could read you But I could read you It's like you told me Go forward slowly It's not a race to the end Well you look like yourself But you're somebody else Only it ain't on the surface Well you talk like yourself No, I hear someone else though Now you're making me nervous You were the better part Of every bit of beating heart that I had Whatever I had I finally sat alone Pitch black flesh and bone Couldn't believe that you were gone Well you look like yourself But you're somebody else Only it ain't on the surface Well you talk like yourself No, I hear someone else though Now you're making me nervous Well you look like yourself But you're somebody else Only it ain't on the surface Well you talk like yourself No, I hear someone else though Now you're making me nervous Well you look like yourself But you're somebody else Only it ain't on the surface Well you talk like yourself No, I hear someone else though Now you're making me nervous Well you look like yourself But you're somebody else Only it ain't on the surface Well you talk like yourself No, I hear someone else though Now you're making me nervous I saw the part of you that only when you're older You will see too, you will see too..

It only took me 25+ years to figure this out. Nobody in this life matters more than yourself ( until you have a family ). So until then, be yourself and DO NOT GIVE A FUCK WHAT ANYONE THINKS OR SAYS ABOUT YOU. Find true happiness within yourself and your own company and no one can put you down!
