After a terrible Christmas of training, I'm back with my usual sessions, and on this day it was an easy run and leg day. So many people ask about what I do in the gym, so here's a little insight.
I have been an ambassador for Runna for years now and for good reason! If you'd like to test out the app, use the code FLORA for 2 weeks completely free :)

What a great day for progress!! I was so sick with covid from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day. It went away, then apparently the gunk left behind turned into a raging sinus infection. I've just signed up for my first 24 hour race in May, and I'm starting from a very low training level, (5-6 miles a week) so the clock is ticking! But I'm a huge believer in ZERO guilt for missing training for sickness or life. I hope skiing was a blast! Good luck in the rest of your block, I can't wait for your race!

Loading is something to keep in mind, what I mean by that is you are effectively increasing training volume substantially. The heavier you can lift, the greater the biological stressors become which in turn demands greater recovery for optimal cardiovascular performance. I used to be a national rower, and the most important thing to remember is that a heavy lift day is equivalent to race day effort to your muscles and so it usually becomes more beneficial to train weights at 60-75% capacity to ensure biological adaptation while ensuring the fatigue does not overshadow your training. You’re going to do great, I always love to see younger athletes literally chasing their dreams. Godspeed.

Love this channel Flora! This was one of the first channels I subscribed to having taken up running 3 years ago at the age of 51. Love seeing the sights on Bristol (not grungy, just cool) and wishing you all the best either way growing the channel. I have my first Ultra in July and have loved your content. Life is lovelier with running. Off to the NEC Running Show this weekend.. #addictedtorunning ❤️

Glad you're feeling better Flora! My gym doesn't allow shoes off lifting, so I just chuck a pair of barefoot shoes in my running vest to change into. You're right though, run to the gym and you're warmed up enough to get straight to the good stuff!

I have to respectfully disagree with those that have told you that Trap-Bar Deadlifts are a good alternative to traditional Straight-Bar Deadlifts. It's true that it reduces the pressure on various areas of the posterior chain; however, that's because it's not really working the posterior chain like a traditional deadlift. Using a Trap-Bar really isn't any different that a traditional squat. I definitely feel the difference in my posterior chain when doing traditional deadlifts compared to Trap-Bar exercises and that's because the traditional deadlift puts the weight forward of your center of gravity, forcing more recruitment of muscles in the posterior chain. Being concerned with injury during traditional deadlifts is a very valid concern, but simply drop the weight. I can easily do much more weight using a Trap-Bar than a traditional deadlift, but that does not mean I exercising my posterior chain any better with the Trap-Bar.
@FloraBeverley
@FloraBeverley 13 күн бұрын
@@johngault8688 interesting! For me that’s not so much the case - squatting doesn’t get nearly as much pressure on my hamstrings as trap bar deadlifts do. But either way, if you’re conventional DLing heavy, there’s little chance you’ll be running safely/comfortably for the next day or 2, which in most runners’ case is not really an option.
