This video has been extremely helpful. Thank you so much for this. It gives me confidence to actually do it as I’m doing this for my best friends sons wedding and they’ve chosen exactly what you’ve described here for their center pieces. They’ve got the gold column stand and the glass trumpet vase both over 20” high. They are hiring the good stuff from a wedding place locally here in the UK. In Louisiana you used to have to take a practical exam (go down to the capital and perform in front of three judges) in addition to written exam . Now just have to take the written exam . I BARELY passed - but was so proud of myself. It was paper/pencil exam and I remember the last question was picture of 10 houseplants you had to name ( fill in the blank). I know I missed about half of those - don’t remember those in my text books! Anyway - I am obsessed. Thank you!

You can, but you would need some kind of mechanic or you won't be able to get structure. If it's a clear vase then you can wind up curly willow in your vase, and if it's a solid vase then you can go with chicken wire! Large-scale arrangements can be a bit more challenging without foam, but it's definitely worth practicing what works best for you!

@FlowerMoxie2 жыл бұрын
Oh man, those are so so dicey to work with. I remember doing a wedding and they kept snapping in half. What I had success with is a foam bouquet holder and the handle slid down into the trumpet. You can really only use minimal floral though. While I don't typically reach for oriental lilies, those helped because there are many branching stems and blooms on one main stem and that helped fill it out.

Thank you for a great video. Exactly what I needed. I am helping a friend with wedding flowers. She needs 8 tall arrangements as this video and one long one for sweetheart table. Her colors are maroon white and blush. Since you said hydrangeas and roses can get heavy, which other would you suggest. And if you can also provide an appropriate number of flowers in each, that would be so helpful. Thank you so much. 💞
@FlowerMoxie2 жыл бұрын
So glad this helped you! Blush roses, burgundy carnations will work great....and you can even use hydrangea, but only if you place them in the centerpiece when you're at the event. This will keep them from wilting. If you want to avoid fussing with hydrangea then go with White Cushion Flowers, Stock, Carnations, Roses, Alstroemeria, Baby's breath, or Snapdragons. For a large centerpiece like this I typically average: 1/2 bunch of salal and leather leaf, 1/4 bunch of baby eucalyptus, then add 10-13 carnations, 10-13 roses. You can layer in more, but that's where I start. For hydrangea, I'd add around 7-8 stems.

Personally, I never rented by vase ware, but many florists do and that isn't wrong. For the trumpet vase - could you just put the foam in the water, without the lomey bowl? Or is it too tall? I am doing hydrangeas and a bit worried about it,
@FlowerMoxie Жыл бұрын
If it's a clear vase then it will make the water all green and gross because the foam sheds. But I have a solid brass vase and I'll build it directly in it. A foam-free option would be to put curly willow in the vase and just put the stems directly in the water.

Awesome idea! That should be pretty easy, but honestly, I don't find the greenery to get too messed up in transit. Yep, I completely agree! I would definitely use clay/putty and no water in the Lomey (no hydrangeas then). You may want to try that and work with it a bit, and if you feel it needs more stability I'd see if I could also strap it down with some waterproof foral tape!

This was a great video! I have an event coming up and I’m using the trumpet vase you showed with a 4 inch diameter at the top. Is there a way to adhere the 9 inch lomey to it? My client likes that vase and she wants a larger arrangement at the top. I’m a little nervous the 6 inch lomey won’t be a large enough arrangement
@FlowerMoxie7 ай бұрын
That's a great question! You could use glue dots or even hot glue to adhere the lomey to the vase securely. I do that every time, no matter the size! Something to be careful of - top heaviness! You can test it before hand, and if it feels unstable, the 6" lomeys may be a better option. :)

Wow! This was sooo helpful but as a DIY bride, this just stressed me out even more thinking about the logistics. I was planning to purchase your classic hydrangea package but since you said not to place hydrangeas until the reception, I'm seconding guessing everything. I won't have anyone to place them during the reception and I was planning to put them in my and my bridesmaid's bouquets. How would that work?
@FlowerMoxie3 жыл бұрын
Hello Andrea! I adore that package, it is so classic, timeless, and ends up looking real boujee! Here's the basic Rule: Hydrangeas + Only Foam = No Bueno Hydrangeas + Foam in Vase of Water = Happy Hydrangeas Ok, so you're fine to use hydrangea in centerpieces and bouquets because they have a water vessel. For bouquets, I just always tell my brides to pop the bouquet back in the vase when it's not being used for pictures and such. One time a bride was all "Umm, so does that mean I can't take the bouquets out at noon, drive around all day taking picture for a 6 ceremony???"...and I was all "YEZZZZZ" Hydrangeas are pretty dang hardy, but they are HEAVY DRINKERS (like my Aunt Blanche), so as long as they have a water source they'll last.

What would you do to stabilize this type of arrangement : silk flowers a 6 inch loamy bowl and a block of styrofoam on top of the trumpet tall vase shown in your video example - but with a crazy small base (we r talking major rickety) the silk flowers are 1 foot high from the top with a cylinder shaped arrangement using dry foam ( new style styrofoam made out of recycled plastic) block in an out door wedding where it will be very hot ( hence the silk flower centerpieces- real flowers everywhere else) and really high winds ! how would you keep the loamy bowl from toppling off from the height of the arrangement and high wind? (The bride wants to resale the trumpet vases so glue is out😕) Loved your video would really love your opinion!!!
@FlowerMoxie3 жыл бұрын
First off, that sounds like a hard event....strong winds, hot as balls...woof! Ok, so Floral Clay/Putty should keep it adhered to the vase, but to be honest, that won't keep the entire vase from blowing over or off the stand. Filling it with water would help, but those tapered vases have a narrow base. I'd fill it with water, pop a mock-up on top, and set it outside on a windy day to see how it handles it. The winds in Oklahoma can be super strong and wild, so if I were you, I'd just test it out on my own time so I'd feel more confident on the event day. I hope that helps!

Either will work! It depends on how large you'd like to make the arrangement and how much product you're using. It's definitely easier to make a smaller vessel look larger by leaving your stems slightly longer than to try and fill in a larger vessel and make it look proportionate.

For the most part, yes! It does detach easier from glass than plastic, however.
