Florence B. Price - Meditation

Florence B. Price’s lovely Meditation was likely composed in 1929, while she was living and working in Little Rock, Arkansas. The piece’s only known autograph copy resides at the University of Arkansas Library in Fayetteville. The plaintive melody and folksong-like accompaniment style of the opening section carry into the middle section, which is in the unusual mediant key (B Minor). The coda briefly references this key before coming to rest on the tonic (G Major).
