The story behind her story: Conscious of being the weird girl at the back of the class she longed for a best friend, but it wasnt until a sixth-form art class that she met Sophie, whose nickname Sad Sack is tattooed on Welchs forearm. We were told to draw each other. I drew her as a pre-Raphaelite beauty. She painted me with a hard face. Not at all how I saw myself.
