The band was formed between 1975 and 1976 in Parisian region, the members were just 4 friends who have never played together before, Lionel Duhaupas (guitar),
Yahia Mokedden (bass), his brother Amar Mokedden and a second guitarist who did't stayed for a long time.
They were influenced by bands such as Deep Purple, AC/DC, Scorpions, Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin or even The Eagles, Police and Dire Straits, this is the beginning of Maya.
The band became 38 Tonnes when Gilles Sudan (Guitars) & Jean-Jacques Berete (Vocals) joined soon after.
After starting to write and work on new songs, the band practice 5 times a week and plays everywhere in france, starting to be well known on the french hard rock scene.
38 Tonnes works on it's first release, a 2 songs single which will be released in 1982 by an independent label, the songswere recorded in great condition in a studio in Riom (Puy de Dôme).
"Laisse Moi Vivre" & "Destin" are really good tunes, the band is close to heavy metal here and the performance is very well played, this single is really awesome.
At the time, this single was noticed by RTL and played on Wango Tango, Francis Zégut's cult rock/metal emission radio, the band also played at a TV show in Luxembourg, helping the band to get known.
Unfortunately, the band split-up soon after because of changes of music taste, some members wanted to play another style of music.
The band today remains a cult act of french early hard rock and this very rare single is a real collector piece.
