Nice to see that coaches are having the sprinters sprint in practice! All those yards they used to have us sprinters do back in college were not helping. Love to see sprinters doing these workouts!
@BenOlszewski Жыл бұрын
Is any submaximal effort OK? How do you define an exercise as "not helping"? What objective measurements are being considered? How do you deal with a swimmer who is improving, but not doing what you would suggest they do? Are all swimmers who swim a certain event to be trained exactly alike? If so, who determines that and what studies show exactly what to do? Why doesn't USA Swimming just hand out a sheet for all coaches in the country to copy if there is one way?...or pick certain things off a prescribed "OK to do" list. Is this practice the correct practice that nails the exact best practices for elite sprinting or will someone comment about this practice as "old school" in 20 years? What will the practice look like in 20 years? Maybe we'll circle around and realize some things from the past were actually pretty good and some things were hype train of the day. I agree with you and think this practice looks awesome (and I've certainly done many sets that I don't think helped me), but I think it's really hard to judge what is best. I personally observe that there are many paths to success. Yardage (volume) does have a place in many protocols, so I hate to see it put in a negative light without more detail.

I would agree and disagree. I went to a college with a bad coach and the sprint workouts were all sprinting. That doesn't help if you don't do yards to build strength and muscular endurance. all of the sprinters had no back half to their 50 or 100. You need the yards, but you need to do sprint stimulus.

@@BenOlszewski The swimming community certainly does not lack passion! I love it! I also appreciate having a discussion of opposing views. My thoughts on this subject are too long for a KZbin comment, but I think the swimming community should at least ask themselves, “Do the track sprinters run 10K-15K in practice everyday? Why do the sprinters in swimming do that?”

how do swimmers cope with the chlorine in the water? i was a swimmer until i was 14 years old and my skin was always dry itchy and my eyes were red etc that's one of the main reasons i switched to sprint kayaking. I'm now 18 years old and i recently took a lifeguard course and we would go everyday into the pool for 2 months and those symptoms came back

Weird how they got Dressel stepping down to yards to practice with the college kids instead of having the college kids step up to meters. Hopefully all this yard training doesn't hinder him later at trials or the olympics.
@SwimSwamTV Жыл бұрын
The Florida training facility has a 50m pool inside (usually split into 2 25-yd pools) and a 50m pool outside right next to each other. Both pools are used during most practices. So even though this was a yards practice, he's training meters at least a few times per week
