Most of Florida is less than 100ft above the normal "water table.' Warmer weather, water decreases in density, it raises the water table. Storms? Lower air pressure, the water level rises, it has no place to drain to. When Hurricane Sandy hit NYC, the Sea Water level in Coney Island, Brooklyn, was just over 4ft deep on the streets.

The southern part of Florida is historically a swamp. They tried filling it in to create usable land but, with climate change and sea level rise rapidly increasing, it looks like mother nature is in the process of reclaiming her swampland! I think back in the 60s when hurricane Betsy hit Cutler ridge Florida?... Kids played in the flood waters... never thinking about contamination...i did think about snakes and alligators though😮 I remember the mass migration of these huge land crabs as the flood waters receded. There were hundreds, it seemed all over the roads...cars would just run right over them. No way to get around. It's hard losing everything... Time to start over again. 🙏
