I'm a firearms instructor for a federal agency and you'd be surprised how often I see magazines drop out of Glocks (we use Glock 19s for duty weapons), even under basic range conditions (firearms qualifications). There are a few reasons why this happens and the majority of the time it all has to do with improper grip on the weapon (we are not talking about having extra long digits or very large hands). If you hold a Glock low on its frame (too much gap between the web of the hand and the tang) or if you cant it slightly inward (with the magazine release on the left for a right handed shooter), folks have a tendency to apply too much pressure with their strong hand (death grip) during stressful situations and will actually hit the magazine release with their thumb. I see this even more often with two-handed shooting when an improper grip is applied, specifically the old "revolver" style grip when the strong hand thumb stays tucked into the frame of the weapon and the support hand meets to establish its grip and ends up covering the thumb, applying all the pressure into it and likely into the magazine release button. The easy fix for this would be a more appropriate thumbs forward grip so the meaty portion of the support hand can make full contact with the other side of the frame and not jam up into the magazine release. I am glad that this officer had the presence of mind to realize the issue at hand and perform an emergency reload. Many times I see this over the officer either takes too long to realize what the problem is or they can't work through the malfunction. Prime example of this issue rearing its ugly head comes from a video out of Chicago just a few months ago (link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oF6popSYlNdqgck). Keep up the good work, train hard and stay safe!

Time for Glock to come to the front & sort this?
@patrickthoman29672 жыл бұрын
Jorge, first I want to say the deputy who dropped that magazine is my son. Their agency carries a Walther PPQ, which has an extended slide release. For those of us who are used to shooting a high thumbs grip on a Glock it requires a modified grip on the PPQ. When my son came around, turned and fired on Wilder, that was the last round in that magazine. But his slide did not lock back because his thumb was riding him on the frame and hit the slide release. He tried to fire and realized the gun was empty. You can actually see the gun dip just before he intentionally dropped the empty magazine. He reloaded as he moved to a better shooting position so he did not hit his partner. My son fired 46 rounds in 37 seconds while reloading twice. Wilder was hit over 22 times. His gun was inoperable because a round had stuck it. My son was terrified. He said when he pulled the trigger and his gun didn't fire said to himself he was dead, but he stayed in the fight and ended it. Afterwards, he picked up a magazine his partner lost during the fight and engaged the other two, who complied and came back. My son did an interview if you care to listed to his words. street-cop-podcast.captivate.fm/episode/the-red-ninja-w-kenny-williams-being-a-survivor-vii-feat-tyler

@@caseythompson9561 The point is, the Perp was under even more stress, 2 cops with guns against him alone. The Perp, got shot, started a retreat with a bad leg, reassessed his situation,, made a plan, acted immediately, flanked the cops without them knowing it, and if his gun did not jam, he would have shot both of the "professionally trained" officers. All 3 were in a high stress situation, only one of the 3 looked like he was "professionally trained" and kept his cool and he wasn't wearing a uniform.

@@caseythompson9561 I'm glad the bad guy is dead and the good guys are alive. If you can, forget for a moment each person's race, pretend two of them are Hatfields and one is a McCoy, neither has a moral or religious superiority, all three are regular citizens, not cops. Now objectively watch the shoot out and tell me who acted with more skill and was least effected by the stress of the situation? One of the three after being shot closed and ambushed the other two. That is simple to see. That person had more skill and was less affected by the stress of the situation...you're original "point" that to me seems invalid. Even though the better warrior died, it was because of equipment malfunction.But equipment is not effected by psychological stress so it is irrelevant in this discussion. I stand by my claim, based on the simple to see evidence in the video, the Perp was less effected by the high stress situation than the officers. The fact he was a career criminal, a menace to society, needs to be caged to protect the public, and every other bad thing you can say about him doesn't change his performance under fire. If I am going into combat, I want someone with his ability to handle stress next to me, not the guys with zero situational awareness doing Barney Fife maneuvers like losing their bullets when the battle starts.

This is truly one of the scariest gunfights in the channel in my opinion. With how many people were on scene, to having a child in the car. The amount of dynamic movement made by both the perp and the officer really rings loudly in my mind. Movement and cover and concealment mean so much and sometimes the difference between life and death is simply being somewhere else. Also goes to show how chaotic these events are, took only a matter of seconds for the perp to totally flank the officers and due to the chaos the didn’t really see it coming, thank goodness the perp was poorly practiced with his firearm and allowed the officer to get a new angle and back in the fight. Stay safe and be smart everyone. Thanks again John

@Tyrone Shoelaces most of those shootings by cop were probably justified.
@Megaman88802 жыл бұрын
@Tyrone Shoelaces The overwhelming majority of people who are killed by police did something that justified the police to use lethal force against them, like in this video here. In this example, the criminal unquestionably got exactly what he deserved. If you endanger an officers life you foolishly place your life in that officers hands, and like any other human being that officer is going to do what they need to do to survive, even if it costs the life of another. Anyone who does this must understand that they are putting themselves in a position to be shot at and very possibly killed as a result of their actions. A big problem with our society today is that people don't want to take responsibility for their actions, they just want to point fingers and blame other people for their problems. In what I would bet is nearly 100% of cases, the use of lethal force was a last resort option that no officer would ever wish to be necessary. Your use of statistics is cute but it doesn't show the bigger picture. The deaths by gunfire are as low as they are because the police operate in such a way to make being shot and killed by a criminal an unlikely occurrence either through training or teamwork with fellow officers at dangerous scenes like in the video. Personally I want to see the number of officer deaths decrease across the board, because they are heroes and everyone should be able to go home at the end of a day's work to be with their loved ones. To say or feel otherwise, would make you a morally bankrupt person and I pity you if that's the case.

They were very close to blue on blueing each other when the BG flanks around behind them. My guess is the same as yours, I think an extended mag release or screwed up grip dropped the mag for him. Overall really well done in an incredibly chaotic situation, and you shoot until the bad guy stops moving, changes shape, or catches fire. Also good situational awareness on recovering the downed mag when he realized he was otherwise out of ammo. Thank god AR pistols are about as reliable as a Hi Point.
